Desolate Absorptions

Updated on June 19, 2013

Materialism rules modern thought

Whilst realism stands invaded

Morale is all for naught

Solidarity laments degraded

Of personal riches it desires to amass

Shrewdly ignorant, of those in need

Care and peace it leaves to pass

Preoccupied with its ain greed

Immersed in contention for enterprise

Cruelty and pestilence in alliance

It contrives the soul’s untimely demise

Scampering for temporary allowance

Anserine, myopic baffled in self made mazes

Rational, irrational slyly emulsified

At a falling world it blindly gazes

With fatal individualism it’s occupied

Hello Nell.... I do not disagree with the fact that money is important ... but it is not more valuable than family and other wonderful things ...

An excellent poem about the human condition in this 21st century. So many live in inhuman conditions the world over.

Hi Rahul, such truth in your words. It's a sad world. morals and values have slowly been replaced by shallow materialism. Many people are selfish and arrogant caring only about nobody but themselves. You have very good sentiments. I can sense that from your writing.

Rahul - You have such a keen insight on what is truly important in this sometimes absolutely cruel and vindictive world. Materialistic wants will never keep them from loneliness and cold when days start to dwindle.

      Stunning

Interesting, of course and thought provoking too. 'Scampering for temporary allowance'..could not agree more. Yes, Rahul, we all seem to have opted for rational irrationality! Your pen seems to be getting sharper with each new post. Lots of love...and good luck with expressions...

Interesting . . . having awakened from sleep a moment passed only now, reading this shared 'poem' I see more than than an eye, I. Well said, more for this 'poet' while work is next, yet these words seen above will offer thoughts and perspective while below the stars upon break of the tasks, ponder is not the task, yet the privilege . . .

Your poem is timely. It tells of a world condition. Some grabbing up everything they can, even if they don't have a need for it, becoming hoarder like. Others lost in addictions. While the worlds people look to their governments to provide for them from cradle to grave. No one

taking care of a brother or sister in need. Life is short, and so is time.

rahul....stunning and powerful....as I read your words of reality, I am so despondent for the human race.....for the loss of what was intended for us, the beauty and peace that has left our world, to leave us naked, hungry and cold.......with no one to blame but ourselves.

All that will save us, is rebirth.....UP+++ awesome, Rahul

Words are truly powerful Rahul, and you have found a way to enhance such a power with poetic amplification to the third degree, cause sever burns on anyone who is indeed fitting of such a mindset, wow!

Materialism is what the makers of such designs output pretty much, the buyers and dealers get their cut, the consumers fall victim every time, because of so-called need for greed, and yup somethings are necessary evils, in what is known as social mayhem, or also known as today's modern day lifestyle living in a man-made Civilization.

Nicely written, your terminology selection is also that of a brilliant scholarly soul, which I do believe you've become Rahul, awesome poetic release. This one is getting shared on our community page. Bravo!

This is definitely not for the faint or weakwilled, it is a challenge to look beyond the photos and close eyes and savor what you are truly saying. It makes one think and to reread it is a must. I must read this again before I go on to the next hub to read. Thank you for the challenge of seeing into another perspective.

      Rahul!

I am so glad this amazing poem just popped in when it did. Such powerful words and insight to the state of this world and its ugliness, pure greed and caring for just self, self, self . . . We must die to self in order to love others . . . just look at that third image (of the man stuffing his face) you have here, that, coupled with your profound words written here, speaks volumes! Sadly, so many right at this very minute are doing such, when there is a child probably close by, who feels those pangs of hunger in his or her little stomach!

Voted up ++++ and must share of course!

God bless you. In His Love, Faith Reaper
