Diamonds That Sparkle and Shine

Updated on October 14, 2015

Diamonds shine

and money may talk

but they can’t offer me

the rising and setting sun

they can’t give me the moonlight at night

and that is such a lovely sight

it seems that the sea

glitters with diamonds

in the sunlight

it is a sight to delight

but the waves hold on to their diamonds

all the riches in this world

can’t give me someone to love

love is more precious

than all the shiny diamonds I could have

love is warm and passionate

while diamonds are cold and hard

life is good as it should be

life is worth living

money cannot buy all the good things

I look toward the heavens and see the stars

twinkling on a blanket of black velvet

they are such a sight to see

I can view them for free

give me nature

and the lovely things

we can touch, see and smell

the wonders that unfold before us

for that I need no money

that is worth more than sparkling diamonds or even gold

and if I have a love beside me with whom I can grow old

then my life has the cherry upon its cake

I am always moved by your poetry, Rasma...your reference to nature in describing love is simply beautiful.

We can always hope for that cherry on the cake Shauna.

Rasma, the beautiful displays nature give us far outweigh the sparkle of any diamond. I love the cherry on the cake line. That pretty much sums it up.

They say that diamonds are a woman's best friend; I agree with you that loving companionship is better. Wonderful lines!

That one timeless, immortal Friend, Love. What can I say? You're in my Heart, Gypsy.

"...touch, smell, see..." Very nice Gypsy, contrasts to affections that are otherwise kept as hard or unfeeling.

"...love is warm and passion...";nice, words reflecting comfort found, again in the attributes of affection, attraction, romance.

Continue to bring to writing what lies within you.
