Different Hearts

Updated on January 3, 2017

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I live in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia. I have a wonderful cat named Sid.

There are special loves,

that come and go.

Those we won’t miss

and those we don’t want to let go.

Loves that hurt us,

others bring great joy.

Finding a place,

in our golden memories.

Dispelling the loneliness,

taking away the falling tears.

Bringing joy and contentment -

loving that just goes on and on.

Hearts that we meet,

cold hearts with no warmth,

warm hearts that smile -

promising love forever more.

Different kinds of hearts,

in this world of ours.

Those that take our hearts

and hold onto them .

Hearts can break and hearts can mend,

always new messages they send.

The best hearts are honest and true,

never making us blue.

Love is always special,

no matter what the season.

The special thoughts that we always remember,

whenever love comes our way.

Love songs always have much to say,

melodies to which,

lovers can dance and sway,

kindling passion through the night.

There are hearts that like diamonds sparkle,

hearts that are as black as coal,

blue hearts and lonely hearts

and those we know offer love right from the start.

Hearts as red as cherry tarts,

always offering a warm hand to hold.

Hugs and kisses,

on wintry cold nights.

Golden hearts,

with the promise of new love,

when the wintry snows melt away

and spring is once again here to stay.

As springs melt into summers,

hearts with love to give,

blossom like meadows,

full of red poppies warmed by the sun.

Hearts always beat faster,

when love is true.

Never having to fear,

knowing that love is always near.

Different kinds of hearts,

they sparkle and shine.

Different kinds of hearts -

I’m glad yours is mine.

I contacted a few a while back. Google "greeting card companies that hire freelance writers" and see what you come up with. Go into the sites and see what their guidelines/submission requirements are.

Thank you Shauna. Funny you should mention Valentine's cards. I have long been wondering if I could write for some greeting card companies but have seen no offers online.

I love the last line in this wonderful poem, Rasma. This would make a great Valentine's Day card!

We all have a heart, but not all action comes out of it. Many comes out of the head instead. Similarly when we write, something comes straight out of the heart and only we know it. That joy, which can't be explained, is what keeps us going and no other person except us knows it. Keep up the good work. Regards.

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, this poem is perfect. There are different kinds of hearts, but it takes a true and giving heart to write this kind of poetry. Beautiful.

You welcome Chris. Glad you enjoyed this.

It is interesting when people we haven't thought of in years suddenly show-up. It does make us appreciate the one we love all the more Bill.

      Thank you Kristen.

Yes, Valentine's will be here before we know it. Yes those are the cold hearts and soon we will also be seeing many lonely hearts as stores get filled with hearts, flowers and balloons FlourishAnyway.

      Thank you Ruby.

Very fitting as we head on to Valentine's Day. At the same time I am also reminded that now is the time when people often file for divorce -- the early months of the year. I guess those are the cold hearts you speak of.

I saw an old lover on Facebook the other day. I brought back memories, some good, some bad, and it served as a reminder how lucky I am that I have Bev. :)

Gypsy Rose Lee, Hearts can do all kinds of things. Bringing love, acceptance, joy and peace to our little corner of the world is the best we can do. Thanks for this reminder to love.
