The Inspiration For This Poem

This poem is dedicated to a friend named Bill. He was nine years older than me.

When we sat together, he and I never said much. But he communicated with his eyes. I knew what he was thinking. And he understood me. He understood me so well, that he never wanted to change the relationship. He knew that if he took it any farther, I would not have time to mature. Bill always told me that I was not old enough for him. He was right.

Three years after we met, I got my driver's license. I was able to drive to Bill's home. I called him. He said, "Don't come over today. I am sick. I have pneumonia." So, I did not come to visit him.

Three months passed, and I still had not heard from Bill. The relationship did not continue. His Mom, who was elderly, told me when I finally called, that he died.

She told me that Bill had died from pneumonia and he was diabetic. I brought his mother, Florence, nine calalillies, to represent each year he was my senior. Bill loved me in a very special way, and I loved him. His Mom knew it too. And so, I never was able to really express the love I had for him except through this poem. He was very special to me and he still is.

Can be said or done
Like you.

You have
Touched me
Like the dewdrop
On its first
Rose petal in

You Speak to me
In silence
With your
And with a
My soul begins
To Soar
As we share
In each others'

Let us not
Disturb the
Natural ability
Of the bloom
Ready to open.

In the free
That has been
It allows us
To be
Who we are
Meant To Be.

There is nothing in this world other than "I".Nothing is anything without the "I" we add to it. Some people are privileged especially the ones whom you have added "I" to. Thank you for a great poem.

      "I" = "Love"
