Divergent Book Review and Summary

Updated on April 14, 2012

The search is over.....

I've been searching for a good book series to follow. Harry Potter is over. The last book in the Maze Runner trilogy will soon be out and read. The Hunger Games movies are being filmed, but the books are over. Soon Twilight will be over as well. I think we're all looking for something new that delivers. It's time for some divergence, or...well.....Divergent.

Divergent is the first of a new book series by Veronica Roth. Never heard of her? This is also her first novel. This dystopian novel follows Beatrice, a sixteen year old girl, as she reaches adulthood. In this society each teenager takes an aptitude test that will tell them which faction they are the most like. The factions are what build the society. There are five; Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). You're expected to choose the faction you grow up in, to do differently would be to turn your back on your family forever. Faction before family is the law of the land. Will Beatrice stay in a faction where she doesn't feel she belongs with the people she knows she loves, or will she make a decision that will change her life forever? More importantly, will the secret she discovers about herself along the way leave her factionless or, if discovered, dead?

I absolutely love this book. Beatrice is a heroine that kicks butt quite literally. Her transformation is better than a What Not to Wear makeover, not because she turns into a runway model, but because of the inner strength she develops by the heart wrenching end of the book. Her love interest will keep you turning pages as well. Is he the hard core bad boy he appears to be, or does he also hide a secret....... and can Beatrice figure out his secret......before it's too late? You can bet your britches (awesome saying) I'll be making up a cast list for this one. If you don't like waiting for books to come out, you might want to wait until the series is done. I'm already biting my nails! On the other hand... if you enjoy following new book series, throwing parties when each book comes out, and geeking out with AWESOME T-SHIRTS then READ THIS BOOK and join me!!!!! :)

I read this book in a heartbeat. It was extremely breathtaking. & by adding the bits of romance, Veronica Roth seriously wrote a winner.

Interest premise for a book series. I'll look into it.

Stephen R Donaldson got me hooked on book series, so now I am more apt to examine them than before.

      Thanks for the tip!

Sounds good! Did you read the series about the Uglies, Pretties, Specials (I think that's what the titles are)?
