Do All You Can

Updated on March 17, 2017

Life Doesn't Seem Fair

Banging my brain

Harder every time like a tennis ball hitting the mesh wire racket

Is there no way to get ahead ?

Each step forward

Feels like two steps back

Times of trouble lurking in the darkness

What is this I feel

All I need is a good break

Don't listen to the news

What you hear is more of the same rubbish

Every day is a constant struggle

Trouble finds me

Love is a word from a make believe world

Filled with broken promises and liars

As my pillow fills up like a water balloon

With tears of disappointment and shame

What is my life worth ?

I am tired of playing this rigged game

Where all I do is complain

Then look over my shoulder

See a mother playing with her daughter

They are laughing and hugging

Playing peek a boo

The little girl still won't let go

She is to unable to talk

She looks like six months old

Such a tiny baby

Her bright purple glasses slide off her adorable face

The mother's eyes have heavy dark circles underneath

Little half moons of a hard past she continues to struggle with

Her mornings start with the shakes as she takes her medicine

The drugs that keep her off harder drugs

She has made consistently bad choices in the past

That has led her down a rocky road

Then one day a unlikely love developed

She was pregnant

Most people would give up the baby for adoption

There is no way she can be a fit mother

This frail mother that has an uncertain future

Abortion or adoption never an option

This is my baby

The one thing in my life done right

Coming from a troubled past

She has every right to complain

Her mother didn't show her love

Her father was never around

What school she went to didn't matter

It was just a building not a place to learn

A cold and uncaring world of brick

Stacked so hi

Nobody could see her pain

As this little girl took on all the responsibilities of a mom

The young baby began to cry

Her mom tugged at her diaper

Checking to see if she needed a diaper change

Feeling it wet

She lifted her baby up

The cute baby with curly hair

Could feel the comfort in her mother's arms

Even though she was uncomfortable

Her crying stopped

There, there my baby girl

I will change you and you will feel better

The baby was bounced lightly up and down

A bond so close

Only a mother would know

As this mother disappeared behind the door

With the great big sign Woman closing behind her

This certainly describes both the young mother and her daughter

Both will face all of life's struggles day to day

Now you tell me how bad your day is?

Complaining of problems that you blow up out of proportion

King Kong's pain

You don't know what it is like to wake up with a headache

Then tending to your crying baby

Because that is what a mother does

She pushes her pain aside

My baby needs me

I need assistance and help from government agencies

As I fill out form after form

So I may get food stamps and subsided housing

I will do whatever I need to do

To survive

I hold my head up high

Instead of shame for all the trouble I have caused myself

If only I could of seen down the line

My ankles sore from early signs of arthritis

My doctor says is only going to get worse

The tears that roll down my eyes of pain

Quickly change to little droplets of love

When I awake to my angel from heaven

Crying because she couldn't sleep

My past is a blur of alcohol and drugs

Neither a thought

As I feed my sweet little precious

Each mouthful she takes

I am reminded how much she needs me

My daughters pain and problems

Come from my poor judgement and drug and alcohol addiction

I can not change that

As my daughter gets older

There are so many new challenges that she will face

I will be there for her

I will tell her when she is old enough

Mommy and daddy are to blame

The same mom and daddy who loves you more than the world itself

As the news reports another overdose and the huge Opioids epidemic

I sing to my little darling

Hush little baby don't you cry

Mommy'all going to love you

More and more every day

As I slide her in an one piece outfit

Bought from a second hand store

Looks like new on you

The pretty reds and pinks

Of all the wonderful animals

We talk about every day

That make you laugh and smile

Once I didn't believe in anyone or anything

As my boyfriend works long hours at his new job

Also struggling with his own demons

He knows we have each other

We have the most wonderful baby girl

Our life is an uphill battle

That we will fight together

Arm and arm as our bundle of joy

Greets daddy with gas and a hot forehead

From crying all morning

Those teeth cutting through her gums

She is teething

He hasn't even changed out of work clothes smelling of fried foods and fish

He gives her kiss after kiss

Her eyes all bloodshot and swelled

All he sees it's up to him to find a way

To take her pain away

So he says I know I know

Those beautiful teeth hurt you so

Wait to you get older and need them to chew

You can eat corn on the cob and apples and pears

There will be many things we both will cry about in the future

This to will pass

We our a family

All our struggles will disappear slowly

As we find more things to be happy about than sad

The waiting room filled up

I over heard the receptionist say the doctors running late

As one man stomped back to his seat

The courageous, proud mother said no problem

My daughter and I are waiting for daddy

He wanted to be here

He is coming right from work

He worked overtime to earn some extra money

The door to the hallway opened

Look who's here

Daddy made it

The little girl lifted her head

Eyes of sparkles

As mommy and daddy both hugged her tight

Audrey Hunt It is so easy to get caught up with a busy life. When it rains it pours. If we are smart enough we will take a step back slow down and reevaluate our values, beliefs and priorities. Making sure we are enjoying life every day in simple ways. Seeing our day through someone else's eyes gives us a new and fresh outlook. Thank you for reading and sharing. Happy Saturday.

I wonder how many of us feel like this or have felt like this at one time or the other.

      Thank you my friend.

      Happy days!

Greg G Zaino On this beautiful Friday the end of the work week for many I wish you a good day. Thank you for reading my story and taking the time to comment. It is strange how some people make life hard and other people take all their problems and see through them as a tunnel they must go through only to get to a better place.
