Do I Have the Courage

Updated on April 28, 2012

Do I have the courage to stand firm?

I feel like a sapling swaying with the simplest wind

Tossed side to side, front to back

Which way to go?

Where do I stand?

I skillfully watch the world

The old oak tree

Steadfast and strong with roots deep

Is my teacher and shows the way

My life now an open book

Nothing to hide

I am an expert with compromise

The demands of this world

Is like a hurricane

I spin - spin - spin

How can I find peace in this spin?

I am reminded of the whirling dervish dance

This mysterious dance connects to the universe

Fear is released

Peace is in the center

This is where I stand

Thanks MrsBrownsParlour for connecting. Your comment opens up something for me to reflect and contemplate. I love it. I did write the poem following a very chaotic time which did pull me into that quality of "strength and peace." Peace is a common ground I resonate to reflect on in poetry and connecting to that quality of "strength and peace" brings about such a dynamic but solid quality.

I feel like you illustrated the journey of pulling into the center: chaotic outer circle, increasing control but still spinning, then into strength and peace.

sweethearts2, wow so true. The 1000 year old tree I photographed has said to have been through 100 hurricanes. Life seems to give us ways to grow and by staying grounded the deeper our roots go and the greater forces we can stand to stay strong. I like that. Thanks for your insightful comment.

The swaying of the tree is how it gains its strength to withstand the wind. Strength from being subject to hurricanes. Another awesome poem

stessily, Wow I really did not know that about the whirling dervishes. It does help me to find peace when I feel out of balance and off centered. Thanks

      Dyhannah, Exquisitely presented!

      I love this observation:

      "I spin - spin - spin

How can I find peace in this spin?"

And I especially appreciate that you introduce the whirling dervishes, whose dance epitomizes the peace which is found in presence, in centering.

      Awesome, beautiful.

Nice I like the finish. I guess because I really do like spinning. Up and awesome.
