Dressing Room Blues

Updated on November 16, 2009

Dressing room blues.

mascara laden
painted ladies
and a litre of wine,
I've had my discards
and some discarded me as well,
but I gave them
a few licks to remember,
then after a riff or two
they vanished,
but oh, the sweet music
between gigs, and gags,
and goodness shared,
and damn those stage lights
and the hurried cues whispered
that always interrupted
the dances in dark alleys,
or in dressing rooms unclothed
how oft the call of the masses
brought coitus interruptus
in the key of what was an F sharp
and then a sadder be flat
it is a life of little deaths
to belong to so many
who see you as something
to further their own dreams with
groupies groping
a piece of the star
riding the meteor storm
till they burn out
and become nothing more
then dusty fingerprints
on a makeup case
in dressing room C.
