Drop the story!

Shaloo Walia is an astrologer and tarot reader. She is an Art of Living teacher and also an ardent Krishna devotee and a follower of ISKCON.

After a failed marriage, I spent years wasting my life in worthless hatred and regret. Holding on to bitter memories did more harm to me than the actual thing did. It was only when I learnt to let go and moved on in life that I began to experience the beauty of life again. Nothing is gained by holding on to the past but you will definitely lose your happiness and peace of mind.

My spiritual master often stresses the importance of living in the present moment. He often tells his followers to shut the past, cut the future and live in the present. Carrying the past baggage weighs us down while nothing is gained except bitterness. Doing my first Art of Living basic course was an eye-opener for me. Hearing the teacher talk about the importance of the present moment, I remembered all those wasted times in misery. That was a turning point for me. I decided there and then not to waste anymore time pondering over the past and move on in my life with a smile on my face.

These lines I wrote to remind myself again and again to 'drop the story' and move on with my life with renewed hopes of a better tomorrow.

Drop the story

For it has come to an end signaling a time to move on.

For the past with its pain and regrets has forever gone.

For new hopes await at the horizon of a promising dawn.

Drop the story

For the defeat has paved the way for victory and glory.

For you have suffered enough in the hell and purgatory.

For the end calls for celebrations and some melody.

Drop the story

For no more with sorrow you have to meekly cope.

For this life goes beyond the zenith and the slope.

So simply enjoy this present joy, this future hope.

“You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy. So let them go, let go of them. I tie no weights to my ankles.”

      Shaloo, nice poetry, and singing,

Inspired me to write the following.

If you are worn out, all options.

      feel exhausted without a motion,

      take no tension!!!

      Just be in motion,

      every next step taken,

      new perspectives, shall be shown.

and life will be a celebration,

      Again.!!!

      - Hari

A gentle rhythm here, which gently urges us to let go of the past. How true that is! Bad things from the past can so easily haunt us and, as you say, it does no good. Great advice!

Thank you annart! One thing that I have learned from my spiritual master is to live in the present moment. This one thing has changed my life for the better.
