Duck on My Roof (Haiku)

Updated on May 14, 2015
Duck on my roof...
Duck on my roof...
If you're lost...not a disgrace...
If you're lost...not a disgrace...
We just can't quack like you...
We just can't quack like you...
We all just walk around...wearing our silly grin...
We all just walk around...wearing our silly grin...
Time to rejoin your feathered friends...
Time to rejoin your feathered friends...

Small duck on my roof,

You're too high for me to reach.

Are you taking pause,

Just too tired to make a speech?

The roof of my house,

Not a very ducky place.

Did you lose your way,

Would not be such a disgrace?

Are you observing,

How us human critters act,

Not so charming, we,

All do speak without one quack.

After your short rest,

Perhaps you'll rejoin your flock.

Never grace our roof,

Where you received such a shock.

Our human race, odd,

Compared to your feathered friends,

Not a one may fly,

Walk... wearing our silly grins.

As a wildlife painter I've grown accustomed to following and understanding my feathered subjects. This was a first for me and the next day he was gone. Just taking a rest break. whonu

A duck on your roof, who knew (pun or no pun)? A great subject leading to a great haiku. Fun to read and interesting to ponder what a duck might think of us.

      Voted up, funny, and interesting.

That was wonderful whonunuwho, I loved it. It had a bit of humor to it even though I read the serious side. I had a hawk on my garage roof once. I do not know whether I would rather have the hawk or the duck. I voted it up, shared and pinned it.

How odd, but exciting, to find a duck on your roof! Inspiration comes in many forms. This is fun, whonu!
