Dummies' Anthem: a Poem

Updated on July 30, 2017

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

May dummies of the world all unite!

For future belongs to their kind

after glorious past of a violent delight

and present all lived with an absence of mind.

Yours is the world and always has been

every crown designed to fit your noble head

every soldier looking so lean and mean

and every beggar's corner good for a daily bread.

Down with brains, long live guts!

Grab what you can and make it look profane

this world was created for idiots and nuts

so down with anyone intelligent and sane!

Don't ever forget those promises you made

to fight every sign of peace and order

defend your insanity with gun and blade

spread it like religion without any border.

Agreements are for wimps who don't know any better

so make sure to protest for sake of protesting

respect your Manifesto to its last letter

to work against reason without resting.

Dummies of the world, spread your wings!

Together you are stronger, don't waste another hour

for you are the power, you are the kings

so make every sweetness short lasting and sour!

MizBejabbers---I know they are united; I just didn't know if they already have an anthem, so I offered one.

Your title reeled me in, and I wasn't disappointed. I think the dummies of the world have already united.

Demas---You are right; it really does seem like reason is suffocating under the heavy blanket of stupidity, while it takes so much struggle to prevent our self-extinction. Harmony and altruism obviously don't come to us naturally.

But let us hope these are but humanity's growing pains, and brains will find a way to silence all tendencies of irrationality---eventually.

Ryan---It's the Latin expression "licentia poetica" (poetic freedom) which denotes all thoughts being allowed to be turned into verses of poetry.

And I certainly have this kind of satirical thoughts as I observe everything going on in our world which makes questionable our title of "homo sapiens" (thinking man).

How often it seems that the wise and good are silent and cowed. The debate continues as to whether this mortal world has more good people than bad, and why (if it does) the good tolerate what the bad impose.

Great work. Definitely liked the flow of this poem. Different type of poem indeed, but I enjoyed it very much.
