Dumped (a poem)

Updated on November 8, 2011

Being Dumped is the Pits

I want so very much

to go away

leave this place

become another me ~

one that never loved.

The lost of you

feels me up inside

breaks my will

to live another day.

Defined by your callousness

I walk within a daze

dry of tears

unable to move forward

disbelief has become uncertainty.

Driven from a weary battle

full of devastation

and constant heartbreak,

it took so long

for me to see

who you are.

So many questions

lead to no words,

talk stands still

only separation remains.

Longing for something to happen,

time moves slowly

as I wait for a sign

a reason why

a thoughtful reply.

I could say

your heart is stone

your soul is cold

call out pure evil.

I could plot my revenge

get you back

make you feel

gain your attention

bring pain to your core.

Reality slaps me in the face

your hate for me grows each day.

The reasons why

excuses for

feelings about

are meaningless lies.

I wonder just how long

sadness will surround me.

Forgiveness should have come

so long ago.

Each day I wake

with the hope

for your memory

to fade away

and for my love for you

to perish.

Imagine that out of the blue the one you love just stops calling you and doesn’t want to see you anymore. Maybe the one you love tells you to your face that he/she never loved you in the first place. Maybe the one you love finds another person to love. However it happens, the end result is the same. You have officially been dumped. Getting dumped is the ultimate downside of being in any romantic relationship. It is the fear of being dumped that scares many from even pursuing any type of romantic relationship. However, being dumped and the pain of being dumped is an experience that we can all survive.

This is a poem about the unexpected end of a romantic relationship that occurs when you get dumped. The horrific dumping situation seems to always occur when we are most in love. Here we are blindly lost in a romantic bliss and unable to see our inevitable fate, then . . . bam we get dumped. While there might have been signs all along that the relationship was not quite right, the pain of the dumping process overshadows all rational thought.

At one point in our lives, most of us will have experienced the pain for being dumped. There are numerous feelings that come with being dumped. We are confused about why the person we love suddenly decides not to love us anymore and seek answers/reasons why we were dumped. People can react many different ways to being dumped. Some might plot revenge or cause an embarrassing scene in an attempt to get at the reason why. Some might lock themselves in their rooms and cry all day and night. Some might go out and find a new boyfriend/girlfriend to ease their loneliness. Whatever the reaction, we all feel the pain of a loss and want the pain to end.

Being dumped and the feelings surrounding being dumped are often hard to talk about and share. This is a poem about my personal feelings and experiences of being dumped. I hope my poem can help others understand that they are not alone. Time will heal these wounds and brighter days are ahead.

In the moment, it does not feel worth the pain. After you heal, you realize how much you have learned and grown from the experience.

I often wonder (as do millions) if it is better to have loved...completely, enduring the pain and anxiety that goes with it or to play it safe, opting to never experience the intensity, guarded and safe but solo.

Very thought provoking hub, I have been there and you are right, time does heal in this case, and it also makes you stronger.

Painfully good! Evocative and sad; I'm sure it will help others who might be suffering from heartbreak to know they are not alone. Nice hub. Voted up, beautiful, and interesting. Thank you for sharing!
