Dust Devils in a Parking lot

Updated on December 21, 2011

Swirling there

indifferent to me

the paper and leaves

in merry connection dance

without a care

The contrast bears sad reflection

that we with so little care would waist

and leave our stamp upon the asphalt

showing our contempt for the land

the intelligence within all

yet nature seems not to care a wit

knowing our existence wont last much longer

and when the dancing of our waist is done

we join it and the dance begins again

only our ashes and dust entwine

but does this fact releave our guilt?

should we go at full tilt

doing and seeing as we please

leaving our wreckage in our wake?

just here sit

in a moment's pause

and consider what kind of foot print you would leave

or shall you be forgotten

your memory left

only in whispers where you were

and a party over your passing

the dust devils throw

as you no more trouble them a jot.

I like the way the words swirl me around as if I were riding the whirlwind. The conclusion was highly appropriate--just.

Thanks for the ride (and the lesson)!
