ETERNAL BED

Updated on April 13, 2012

Strong odour of rich earth rose afresh

With it too, of decaying flesh

Suffocating darkness and solitude

A will-less sinking terror, cold and rude

Stale and pricking mane, callous fell

Starvation and pain sounded death's own knell

Every keen sting of bitter life, yet prevailed

Only now, life's hope and warmth, no more availed

Blood frozen in numb veins, heart, heavy as lead

Vigorous footsteps over my rotting corpse, free tread

Feast for the worms, hearing all from my eternal bed

Not me alone, but my memories too are gone and dead

Poignant, an excellent piece. It nearly made me shiver with your choice of words. It is VERY well done.
