ETERNAL PATTERNS

By: Wayne Brown

Billowing white clouds merge in a clear blue strain

Gathering in their moisture to bring some rain

The pattern repeats itself time upon time

Like moonshine at night and the day’s sunshine

Rain drops dripping on puddles of watery glass

Rippling water circles roll out from the splash

The pattern repeats itself time and again

Like the tide goes out then comes back in

Cold rain water pours down on a dry creek bed

Washing about the sands as the land is fed

The pattern repeats itself for time on end

Though it be dry now, the rains will come again

The gray of winter casts in shadow over summer rays

Draping a blanket of cold for days upon days

The pattern repeats itself with each coming season

Mother Nature is silent; she has her reasons

An ultra-light spirit with tiny flittering wings

Nips at the nectars of the flowers in spring

The pattern repeats itself as God so desires

To carry the precious pollens and ignite life’s fires

A tear-stained face finds a smile to replace the frown

Sadness occurs but happiness always comes around

The pattern repeats itself always coming back to smiles

It’s just our human nature as we cover life’s miles

A new born child cries for a proud new mom and dad

An old man passes in silence; loved ones by his bed

The pattern repeats itself over the cycle of life’s span

God’s gift of precious life and the mortality of man

Wow Wayne! I was going to go hunting for one of your beauties tonight. Didn't have to look far! Love the song and photos. How sweet the sound . . . lost but now found. And the miracles in nature. So comforting that even when we are low and hurting, tomorrow's sunrise brings a new day full of possibilities. Thanks for a beautiful poem.

Beautiful Wayne, had to read this twice. Love the photo too. Wayne I din't think it possible that your poetry could get any better, but this is so lovely, such an enchanting read. This is one I will definitely share with my facebook friends. Way to go man, still right at the top. xx High fives all round.

Great work! Almost surpasses your political diatribes but you are a master of both my friend.

3 Stars because I couldn't find something so true to be humorous in this instance.

This is absolutely awesome and beautiful, Wayne. And, very appropriate to several things that are happening in my own life at the moment. Thanks for being so simple in your wisdom and your eloquence. I'll be coming back to this one frequently. First hub I've ever bookmarked, and I'm not a huge fan of poetry. :)

@Truckstop Sally...After a week of writing political hubs, I was ready to create a good verse. WB

@thebluestar...So glad you liked it. Sometimes I wonder if the well will run dry and then I just write another. WB

@Eiddwen....I too am amazed by all the talent here...I think it helps me to be better as well. Thanks much. WB

@The Frog Prince...I try to keep my skillset going in a lot of directions so I don't get writer's block, Frog. Glad to see that your son lives in FW...I am in Arlington, we are neighbors! WB

@Motown2Chitown..Glad it hit a personal note for you. This one came to me in the form of raindrops splashing in a puddle and I could not rid myself of the image until I wrote the poem. WB

@breakfastpop....Thanks so much, Poppy...nice to get away from politics a bit. WB

@The Frog Prince...That would be good. I live near the university and I know a good watering hole (Biaraporetti's) up the street where everybody knows my name. I will send you my mobile phone number via back channel. WB

@Pamela99...Funny how these inspiration show up at my doorsteps. Glad you liked it! WB

@SilverGenes...At first, I just thought of the raindrop hitting the puddle of water and how recurring that was...then it occurred to me that same process takes place in other ways. Glad you liked it! Thanks much. WB

      @chspublish...Thank you! WB

@Cardisa...I do surprise folks every now and Cardisa so just hang in there! LOL! WB

Breathtakingly beautiful poem, with depth and wisdom about the myriad, eternal patterns and cycles of life, Wayne, and how so much of life exits in relationship.

@Genna East...Thank you! It is much like physics...for every time of enegy released there is an effect in some other area. Nature is but a balance of energy expended and energy absorbed in many ways...but a beautiful one, I might add. WB

Lovely poem, Wayne. It does remind me of the sometimes fragile, ever resourceful balance of life on this rainy day in Missouri. Even as I look out our window at all of the green filling in the emptiness, there is new growth in purples and pink, whites and orange that stand strong beneath a cold Spring rain.

So glad I stopped in today. Refreshing! ~Scarlett

@Scarlett My Dear...Glad you came this way today too, Scarlett. This one has touched readers more deeply than I anticipated. I guess I did not see the depth of the poem when I wrote it...sometimes I miss those things as the inspiration flows. Great comments! WB
