Egypt In A Bottle

Updated on April 6, 2011

The sun shined bright as it began to hide

It floated above the water allowing time to subside

The sunrays reflection sparkled on the water layer

Calm and still with no one in sight not even a strayer

So peaceful and quiet what a captivating set

The still waters and the sun causing a perfect duet

I closed my eyes and inhaled the ocean water

Opened my book titled “The Tsarina’s Daughter”

I take a pause to behold the image of the sun setting

As I stared a little harder I saw an item getting

Closer; what was this thing bobbing along

No one in sight for it to belong

I waited patiently and watched it move near

It was a bottle that carried its glass so clear

A brown cork screw to keep it air tight

Inside it contained a letter with black write

I picked it up and held onto it wondering if

I opened it and found some sort of hieroglyph

As I unraveled the scroll, a language written

Into a different state character smitten

Transported from water front to a place unknown

On the lands of another country now shown

Cloaked in garments not of my time

Sounds of wind pipes releasing a chime

In a palace of gold plated pillars and ceilings

A different era with time travel I’m dealing

Had this scroll with hieroglyphics taken me to

An ancient civilization with a pyramid view

Was I dreaming or was it real life?

An emperor’s queen, I was made his wife

Could it have been that this was my fate?

Walking into an Egyptians Palace front gate…..

Beautiful poem you wrote. Thank you for it and for the gorgeous photographs as well. I intended on going to Egypt this summer - it was next on my traveling list but with all the turmoil there now, I have to wait a bit.

Your poem was fascinating and the photos go great with it. Cheers!

I loved how the sun "floated above the water allowing time to subside."

Personally, I have thousand sunset pictures. One of my all time favorite past times is to chase them down at the very last moment, and then, slowly relish another magnificent day's passing.

Your poems are like that for me. I chase them down, relishing that they've been given to me personally, like all those sunsets...(delusionally, of course!!) ;)

And if you ask me, you are the Grand Empress... =)
