"Hope is a Resource" By Eric Wayne Flynn

Updated on August 26, 2013

"Hope is a Resource"

Empty concrete and wooden boxes

Stomachs filled with empty promises

White picket fences depict most scenes

Desolate fruitful land of broken dreams

Realities harsh and slow for this pot of melting flesh

Broken backs paid low wages to shovel the rest

All the while, pseudo intellectuals hide behind a desk

Systems protect systems, covering up their mess

Circling electronic eyes in the sky sent to spy

Saturated senses keep the flock from asking why

So instead of using our numbers for the rally cry

We shout out to our shepherd "Please don't let us die!"

Deserving of our fate? They relish in our cerebral slaughter

Our very minds and bodies they wish to alter

The idea of hope? A word associated with the obtainable

Hope is a resource, one that's unsustainable

Thumbs up, Eric. Real feeling, as usual with your Hubs, but something more invasive, unsettling as nails on a chalkboard that makes this one elusive, almost tenable, like shadows fleeing the light. Nice.
