Enchanted Thyme: A Delicious Adventure for Kids

Updated on August 22, 2010

Do you have an elementary school aged child who loves adventure stories as well as an interest in food and cooking? If so, Enchanted Thyme just might be a perfect reading selection for your child. Written by renowned children's entertainer and award-winning playwright Ariane Smith and featuring recipes from Chef Michael Wilson, this unique children's book is both entertaining and educational.

About Enchanted Thyme

Enchanted Thyme is intended for an audience of children between the ages of six and eleven. Kids will delight in the adventures of siblings Belinda and Peter Phair, bedtime story fans who discover that the new book that appears on their bookshelf is really a gateway to the kingdom of Enchanted Thyme .

The children learn of the special powers of their book when three "Royal Kitchen Mice" appear and ask for their help. The mice are named Marjoram, Rosemary, and Basil, and they appeal to the youngsters for assistance with helping release the queen of their kingdom from a curse placed upon her by the Fricassee Fairy.

Thanks to the curse, Queen Topstead had an insatiable hunger that just cannot be satisfied. Because Belinda and Peter are children of a professional chef, the mice ask them to rise to the challenge of creating a dish that will break the curse. The result is a fun and frolicking adventure that kids are sure to fall in love with.

The youngsters work with the master chef from the royal kingdom to find the perfect recipe. Each of the recipes tried in the story is included in the book, so young readers can try their hands at creating any (or all!) of the 15 royal concoctions in their own kitchens if they wish. Selections include Creepy's Swamp Stew, Belinda's Groovy Grapes and Other Green Fruit Salad, and Orgoglio's Dancing Salsa with Pineapple, Mango, and Tomatoes.

A Great Story for Children

This book is a truly unique culinary adventure for kids. Author Ariane Smith explains the mindset behind the book, stating "I developed Enchanted Thyme as a way to stimulate a child's appetite in all ways. It provides an immersion of sorts, an exciting trip through another world and an adventure that can be explored on a systemic level that reaches from head to potatoes".

Kids are sure to fall in love with this fun and unique adventure story, the first in a series of six "delicious adventures" by Ariane Smith. Who know? It just may inspire your kids to try new foods and fall in love with culinary activities as well!
