Encroach Upon My Person

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Encroach upon my person,

and I shall slap you silly.

Leave me alone,

and I shall morn the loss.

Hold me, reject me,

embrace and disregard me,

never fail to be there,

for without you I am lost.

This irony of thought is exhaustive,

wearing me thin.

I wish love was easy,

like a fresh summer breeze.

Inhale and let its goodness imbue,

not drag me this way and that.

Stop agreeing to disagree,

let me wallow in self-pity,

and then lick my wounds.

Who are you Mother Teresa?

Let me drown in my ambiguity,

to follow my ragged course

and reject your acceptance.

Come here so I can push you away,

I despise your compassion

and commitment to love,

when I am running for the hills.

Go away so I can pursue you,

seek you out to dismiss you.

Who am I to deserve your kindness,

your caring, understanding ways.

Who am I to reject you,

lost in my fears.

Why is love so hard?
