Ending Day

Updated on October 7, 2015

We will wait for you here

on this grassy slope.

Heads bowed

Waiting

For the hand that guided us,

The look that chided us,

The laugh

That cradled our fragile hearts.

Waiting and wishing

For the light to return

To your eyes

To our lives.

Blessing the rain

That disguises our tears

The clouds that mirror the darkness of our fears.

Waiting for the last bit of soil,

The last glimmer of hope

That it's a mistake

A careless blunder

that took our joy

And replaced it

With this long wooden box

This cold granite post.

A memorial to a woman who was

Who is

And who will be

Forever in our hearts.

Hi Shyron I'm so glad you enjoyed it - it's always nice to get some positive reinforcement (for poetry especially as it is often so personal). Thanks for reading.

Such a beautiful poem, I loved how you ended it, as if the person died of a broken heart.

      Voted up, AUBI and shared.

Thank you for your condolences vocalcoach, I teared up reading your poem as well. Sometimes just the knowledge that everyone has lost someone is enough to ease some of the pain. Thanks for commenting.

Hello brownella - Tears are running down my cheeks as I become a part of your beautiful and sorrowful poem. I needed to read this and I would have missed it if not for your sweet comment on my recent hub about the loss of my son. I know that we were lead to each other. Thank you so much and I am truly, truly sorry for your loss.

      Beautiful.

I have not been very active on Hubpages lately and trying to become more active. I've been going through the people I follow and came across this poem. I was reminded why I followed you in the first place.

Unfortunately I can't take credit for the picture, I had it in my pictures folder but I'm not sure who took it. Thanks for reading, and commenting : -)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, she really was an amazing person. It's been over a year now and some of the things in the poem I have in my house now; just looking at them, especially the paintings, always reminds me of her and her always unique view of the world (usually shared in a no nonsense way). Thanks for reading :)

I'm so glad you like it. My french is pretty rusty but it is such a beautiful language that everything sounds lyrical, you should post them (in English too). Thanks for commenting :)

Beautiful poetry, Brownella! I can appreciate it but writing it is not my strength :-) I do it for fun sometimes in French but it's never published :-) I love your choice of picture with the cherry blossoms :-)

Hi Moonlake and dghbrh, I'm so glad you both enjoyed it. Death is always a difficult topic, but since it is something that touches us all it always feels good to put it down in writing, somehow that is easier than speaking. Thanks for commenting :)

Death never seems real until the freshly turned earth and the cold headstone, then how much we've lost suddenly sinks in...Thanks for reading Wayne and Snakeslane (and commenting).
