Enjoying the River

Updated on February 23, 2015

I long to be beside you

like a traveler that’s come home

to wash the dirt

from my hands and feet

I long to refresh myself

In your cool waters

to lie on your bank

while nature embraces me

To look up and see the sky

reflected through the willows that grow beside you

to rest on the soft green tufts of grass

and watch birds flying by

I’ll listen to the sweet melody

of your swiftly flowing water

as it churns about rocks and soil

wondering where your journey will end

Then as I follow along

as far as I can

I know where you’re heading

and I stop to wave you on your way

A wide, blue weaving ribbon

water sparkling in the sun

moving ever onwards

toward the deep, blue sea

I often think the same thoughts as I look at a river. Beautiful Rasma...

Rasma, your poetry gets better and better with each piece you write. This is a beautiful example of your talent.

Very beautiful poetry, Rasma. Your direction has changed even if temporary. You are also using stanzas very well, and you're taken away the very long non-spacing lines.

Both styles are excellent, but this seems a little more profound and in tune with observations of nature. Best wishes.

How lovely. Rivers are so wonderful, and this is a great tribute to a river.

I can feel the river. This reminds me of sitting in an inner tube and just floating down the river. Beautiful and soothing.

      Voted up, awesome, and interesting.
