Escape

Updated on May 23, 2013

There was silence

Only a beating heart

A gasp

For life

The beating heart pounded

In the dark night

The escape

Set her free

From all her pain

All the misery

She finally fled

Courage

Her heart had bled

A freedom she had never

Felt before

Now alone in the night

But not alone in her heart

She always knew she would survive

From the aching madness

The prison she left behind

Long bored with her

He wouldn't try finding her again

His monster deeply hidden

She broke through the trees

Through the clouds

Finally saw a glimmer of light

Of the hope she was meant

To see

No more days

Dark as night

I tried to apply it. Battered wives, abused children, those poor ladies kidnapped, and it applied to all. A truly universal poem of tragedy, yet hope. Thank you.

Agreeing with all of the above, this fits so many situations in our headlines and in the darkness where abused women live.

Such depth from the heart. You are able to pull the reader into the journey towards the light. THe key to maintaining "light" is to not look back.

You're welcome to read/rate my hubs as well and find much similarity

      Hi Caroline,

      "Now alone in the night

But not alone in her heart"

Beautiful and inspirational. I see the heart as a light that gets us through the dark times.

Few things can keep a person alive. Hope for better things or hope for change somehow. Hope for anything can be more welcome than the battle the person in this hub experienced. Your words need to be said and this needs to be told. I admire your honesty and passion here.

The tale hinted at in this poem is a frightful one, and as said above, one that needs to be told. Agreeing with Astra Nomik.
