Escape From Self

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

Opposite of meditation is this strange escape

from what is our most intimate truth

our ego treats it as a forbidden grapes

while it welcomes anything that will pamper and sooth.

Those ugly things we don't want to face

keep sneaking back through window when chased through door

so hard to accept, even harder to embrace

as too much of life feels like an unsettled score.

Running from parties to drugs and wine

or just staring for hours at that crazy box

we watch some old movies with each familiar line

just to knock our true self out of its socks.

Oblivion is not only a mental vacuum state

it's also detachment from who we truly are

trading something that's incredibly great

for a cheap sensation of something so bizarre.

Escaping into a world where we are not

isn't really living, or who is the one alive

who occupies our only designated spot

as impostor in our skin to pretend there and thrive.
