Eugene vs Gambit

Updated on March 28, 2014

Eugene is a promising Spirit World detective. He has gone through numerous challenges and was able to protect his loved ones from even the most notorious monsters that dared to threaten the peace of our world. On the other hand, Gambit is a mysterious fighter who was involved in the X-men at some point in time but eventually joined the enemy ranks later on. His skills in using a stick for both attack and defense are incomparable. His ability to turn any object into a bomb made him even a much challenging opponent. What if these strong superheroes collide and face each other all out? Can Gambit’s deck of cards be enough to stop Eugene’s ray gun? Who will emerge victorious in Eugene vs Gambit?

Real Name: Yusuke Urameshi

Place of Birth: unknown

Gender: Male

Height: 5'8"

Weight: 120 lbs

Powers: Rei gun, spirit shotgun, Spirit Wave, Chou Rei Gun

Brief History: Eugene was feared by every gang on his town. His thin physique might deceive you but this high school boy has excellent fighting skills. Nonetheless, Eugene is naturally good. He is specifically passionate in protecting the weak and keeping everyone close to him safe. Probably the only one that saw Eugene’s innate goodness was Jenny, his childhood friend. Jenny secretly had feelings with Eugene. However, their love story never had the chance to bloom as Eugene was caught up in a very serious road accident as he saved a little boy. He died. Jenny and his rival Alfred were shocked to know Eugene’s death. What they don’t know is that the incident marks the start of his exciting journey as a Spirit World agent and the protector of Earth.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Eugene’s ray gun is his strongest technique. He does it by focusing an absurd amount of spirit energy on his finger and unleashing it like firing a gun. This technique also has numerous variations. If faced with multiple enemies, he usually unleashes his ray gun like a shotgun to hit numerous targets at the same time. Eugene’s speed and power are also beyond human’s capacity. He can also absorb considerable amount of punishment and still end up winning a battle. His determination to win over even the mightiest foes is almost incomparable. Probably the only weakness of Eugene is that he usually makes reckless decisions. He won’t hesitate to face even enemies beyond his match just to save a friend or Jenny. His unthought-of fighting decision often leads him to tight situations. Will this be the reason why he’ll fall victim to Gambit? Will his ray gun be enough to defeat Gambit?

Real Name: Remy Etienne LeBeau

Place of Birth: U.S.A.

Gender: Male

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 179 lbs.

Powers and Abilities: excellent fighting techniques using a long stick, explosive cards, superhuman hand speed and precision

Brief History: Abandoned at birth due to his burning red eyes, the child who would one day become Remy LeBeau was kidnapped from his hospital ward by members of the New Orleans Thieves' Guild who referred to the child as "le diable blanc" - the white devil. They believed he was the child that had been prophesied to unite the warring Guilds. Soon after, Remy was placed in the care of a gang of street thieves who raised the child and taught him the ways of thievery.

Later, when he was around ten years old, Remy attempted to pick the pocket of Jean-Luc LeBeau, then-patriarch of the Thieves’ Guild. Jean-Luc took the boy in off the streets and adopted him into his own family. As part of a peace pact between the Thieves’ Guild and their rivals, the Assassin’s Guild, a marriage was arranged between Remy and Bella Donna Boudreaux, the granddaughter of the head of the Assassin's Guild. However, Bella Donna's brother Julien objected to the marriage and challenged Gambit to a duel. Remy killed Julien in self-defense, but was excommunicated and banished from New Orleans in an attempt to maintain the nonaggression pact between the two guilds.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Gambit is basically effective in battle as he excels in both long and short range encounters. He can throw his cards as a distraction and deliver a forceful blow with his stick to knockdown even the toughest enemies. Gambit’s agility and speed often provide him with battle advantages. However, Gambit lacks physical strength. Against someone who can easily evade or is tough enough to resist his exploding cards and might blows from his stick, Gambit will be useless. Can Eugene maximize this weakness and gain battle advantage? How can Gambit go around with Eugene’s powerful ray guns and strong will?

Eugene and Alfred were relaxing on a café during a fine afternoon. It was just a few months after Eugene defeated Taguro and he was just recovering from all its injuries. None of them were expecting that an impending danger is drawing near. A weird-looking man suddenly went inside the café. Eugene sensed his presence and so did Alfred. It seems that he was looking for someone. He carried a long stick with one hand while playing with a deck of cards on the other. It was no other than Gambit. He was out for a mission to track down renegade mutants who happened to have fled on Eugene’s place. Gambit did not have any idea as to how the mutants look like so he was simply searching for anyone with special abilities. The café seems to be a dead-end for Gambit until he felt something wrong about Alfred. He sensed Alfred’s spiritual force. Alfred on the other hand was on guard as Gambit emits inhuman presence. Gambit did not take any chances and initiated the battle by throwing a couple of bomb cards towards Alfred with extreme speed. Alfred barely dodged Gambit’s attack. Eugene rushed for a counter-attack, challenging Gambit to a fist fight. Gambit was able to block the attack with his stick yet the force of Eugene’s punch thrown him out of the café. Eugene ran and sought for an abandon area to avoid innocent casualties during their fight. Gambit was aware of his purpose so he simply followed the Spirit Word Agent. The two mighty superheroes found themselves staring at each other’s eyes in an empty parking lot. Alfred went out to call Vincent and Dennis for help. The duel can’t be helped. Gambit was impatient so he started round 2 with a barrage of card bomb. Eugene replied with a Spirit Shotgun and was able to detonate all the card bombs. Before the smoke from the explosions clear out, Gambit swung his stick with extreme force out of nowhere and directly hit Eugene’s face. Eugene went flying until he stumbled upon a thick wall. Gambit though the fight was over and was about to leave the place when he noticed a ray of light towards him. It was Eugene’s ray gun! Gambit swiftly maneuvered to evade the attack but it’s beyond his ability. He’s right arm was heavily injured as it got caught from the blast. Gambit’s will to continue the fight was still burning yet it seemed he was at his limits. Eugene was amazed about Gambit’s determination so he decided to finish the battle by simply hitting Gambit at the back of his neck with a force enough to faint him. Cyclops and the whole X-men team arrived on the site a few minutes after the battle. They found Gambit unconscious and they apologized for the trouble their teammate caused. Cyclops assured Eugene that they could count on the X-men at times of great need and that they are not alone in keeping the world at peace.

I love this hub. Though I'm a pretty big Gambit fan, I love Yusuke and Yu Yu Hakusho in general. I totally agree that he'd come out on top in this one.
