Ever After High Books are Great for Tweens

Getting my 10-year-old daughter to read books is a tedious task. She reads well, but she simply doesn't like to read. It's not a new thing; she has been like this her entire life. However, being a lover of books and a reader, I determined that her disinterest in reading was because she hadn't fallen in love with a book yet. In my attempt to find a book that she would fall head over heels in love with, I gave her my copy, my beloved copy of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. After that, we made a gradual progression to the Ever After High series by Shannon Hale. This set features everyone's favorite fairytale characters' children and is a great book series for tweens.

The Storybook of Legends

The Storybook of Legends is the first book in the Ever After High series. This fairytale was first published in October 2013 and introduces readers to the teenagers that attend Ever After High, a boarding school. In this book, readers will learn about the Storybook of Legends and how it affects the legacy of each and every student attending the boarding school. Students must sign the book and determine whether they want to follow their parent's footsteps, or write their own destinies. The problem is, if one character chooses not to follow their fate, it could change the future of other characters as well.

The Unfairest of Them All

The Unfairest of Them All is the second book in the Ever After High series. This Shannon Hale novel for young readers was released in March 2014 and focuses on what happened to the fairytale characters right after Legacy Day. On Legacy Day, fairytale characters had to choose their destiny and determine whether they would become Royals, Rebels, or Roybels. The Royals, led by Apple White, and the Rebels, led by Raven Queen, must squash their disagreements, when one of their Wonderland classmates, Maddie Hatter, is in trouble.

A Wonderlandiful World

A Wonderlandiful World by Shannon Hale is the third series in the Ever After High series and released in August 2014. In this book, a magical bag from Wonderland has had a strange effect on all of the students and staff of Ever After High. The only students not effected by the Wonderland magic include Mattie Hatter, Cedar Wood, the daughter of Pinnochio, and Lizzie Heart, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts. Together, these three teenage girls must find a way to stop the Wonderland magic and save the futures of everyone around them.

It is so hard to find books that a tween will become interested in. I have quite a few reluctant readers in my class. I will definitely look into these books. Thank you so much.

I didn't know about these so thank you. I sure hope kids are still reading today as much as they were. I think it can make such a difference in their lives and we should all encourage it who have children anywhere in our lives.
