Everybody Spying on Everybody Else: a Satirical Poem

Updated on July 30, 2017

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

Hey, do you see that poor guy

with white cane and those dark glasses?

He must be another foreign spy

taking snapshots of our asses.

And what do you make of that pretty blonde

lying on the beach and almost nude?

It could be none other but a James Bond

or some other well disguised dude.

They are everywhere that you don't look.

And are you even sure about your wife?

What if she is only another spook;

so if you see her texting, run for your life.

Then how do I know you are not one

watching me through my laptop screen,

reporting something that I haven't done

and smudging my record innocent and clean.

And how do you know who I am

while writing this silly poem on spying?

Maybe I am working for Uncle Sam

---although it's so easy to catch me lying.

Well, here I go laughing at my yapping

about paranoia over private living,

and I'm not really counting on your clapping

to this clumsy act of a silly deceiving.

      Interesting subject matter.

Dora---Isn't that interesting...for all that paranoia of the last year---we are still alive and well; and all chances are that by next year this paranoia will prove itself a futile assault on our peace of mind.

But hey, being paranoid these days is just as popular as humming an Elvis' song used to be. So, why not join.

Thank you for the cute comment, my friend.

Clapping while being paranoid myself. How do I know . . . I'd better not ask.
