Everyone's A Critic

Updated on June 21, 2011

Everyone's a Critic

Everyone's a critic
or a qualitative judge,
quick to point out blunders,
every little flaw or smudge,
rarely to consider
with empathy or care
what it would be like to be
the object of their flare.

Its just all too easy
to dissect and criticize
and offer an opinion in
authoritative guise,
when, in fact, through ignorance,
the truth may be obscure,
methodology and motives
may be reasonable and pure.

It is risky business to
assume and, then, opine
based upon critique that is
subjectively inclined.
Wisdom withholds judgement
with an empathetic eye
considering the obscurity
the critic does belie.

The world is full of critics, it would seem. It is easier to focus on someone else than it is too look in the mirror. Ugly comments on Hubpages really bother me, God don't like ugly! I appreciate your read and comment and apologize for ugly...

I think quite a few people on this site should read this before they comment on others' work , i spent the biggest part of my morning this morning delete~ing ugly comments off of some of my writings lol , i wonder why they seem inclined to critique others when they should critique themselves first!! this was great ! voted up and awesome!

bella, I think this particularly applies to us personally concerning ourselves...I don't judge another human being as harshly as I do myself...I try hard not to judge others but...am pretty hard on me, as I can see that you are upon yourself, as well. I am grateful for you, for your creative and passionate heart, and your willingness to share that deep emotion with the world in an effort to make it a better place! Be gentle with bella! Lots of love to you. I have been absent from Hubpages for a time and have some catching up to do...but I will be visiting you soon!

I love it, Tnderhrt23. You're right, people are quick to criticize and judge, at times on the most miniscule of things. If it's not broken no one needs someone else telling them how to fix it. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Don't you hate when someone is happy and another comes along and burst their bubble with a comment supposedly with an altruistic intend? Yeah right...

Right on. Sometimes when i read beautiful and heartfelt poetry from someone, then some EXPERT comments, like perhaps you should have used this word instead, i 'wanna shout, " Hey it's her poetry, shut up " I'm with Epi, don't be a critic!!

      Terrific poem with great insight....

We should not be so quick to make assumptions or judge people. That's an area of my personality I'm still working on (there's always room for self-improvement), but the tendency has decreased, I'm happy to say.

Wisdom shines through your poetry. Critique without empathy does blot out the truth..

Don't say anything if you can't speak positively. There is power in words use them wisely. Great message.

Epi, that is funny you say that because that was one of what I refer to as my mom's pearls of wisdom! This came to me while watching the Casey Anthony trial, and reading a bunch of commentary from other viewers who are trashing her lawyer...and I am thinking..."everyone's a critic"... I thank you, my dear friend for your undying loyalty and support, which is mutual...

...well I always love the philosophical insights contained within your writing Miss M - and I have an old saying (pertaining as well to Hub commentary) "If you have nothing good to say then don't say anything at all"

......but with you Miss M - my acclaim for your writing will never ever ....... stop!
