Everything I Thought I Needed

Updated on April 23, 2013

I almost left him

For not being there to hold me

On lonely Sunday nights

And never calling me

When I needed someone

To tell my secrets to

And never joining me

On summer walks in the park

And then it occurred to me

That perhaps the times

Where I felt the most lonely

And hated him for not fixing that

Were the times I most needed

To be by myself

Everything I thought I needed

Were only things I wanted

Things my weakness would abuse

We all hate to feel sad and alone

But the truth of the matter is

It's good for us sometimes

We learn who we are

And think thoughts in the silence

That chatter would prevent

And see things in the world

That companionship blinds us to

And sometimes being given more space

Than we asked for

Is best gift someone can give us

Whether they know it or not

What a poem, wonderfully personal and reflective. I can relate to it.

You have been given a gift worthy to share...

We can be in a room full of people and feel like we are alone. It is good to actually at times to be alone by yourself, so that your mind can have time to really think on things and reflect on what matters most. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Voted up and awesome. You're right sometimes given time to ourselves we can reflect and see where we're headed and come to realize where we are at this point in the world. It's also a great way to become your own best friend.

This shows some good insight into ourselves and how we sometimes try to avoid being alone with our thoughts--when that's really what we need. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting, sometimes we are alone even in the company of others.

Very interesting, clear, containing realization and a touch of sadness.
