Exegesis and the High Spelunca
Forget Me Not
Exegesis is another issue which I have tried to tackle in my novella “Forget Me Not”. Exegesis refers to the explanation or interpretation of a text, particularly a religious one. The accurate meaning of Scripture has been a bone of contention since time immemorial. The differences that underlie religious factions and sects emanate from exegesis.
In “Forget Me Not”, The High Spelunca, a religious leader of the Deus-hominist Temple in Willow Town, is adamant that nobody in the congregation is qualified to challenge his interpretation of the book of Deus-hominem – the fact that he had spent his entire life studying the book entitles only him and other religious leaders of his rank to say what the verses exactly mean. Two characters in the story dare to challenge his bigotry when they discover that his interpretation of the Scripture does not allow for sympathy and acting humanely.
