Family Circle

Updated on November 11, 2013

Another one

comes in the door

a chosen one

to rise up the ranks.

Doesn’t matter

how difficult it makes

an already stacked deck.

and special circumstances

overvalued much

without a second thought

to what brings success.

Justice but a kind idea

forgotten about

in the rush

of privileges and favors.

As time goes by

the chance of change

grows slim.

The circle keeps growing

of friends and loved ones

Unattainable loyalty

disguised under a cloud

of proscribed

rules and regulations

that only apply to one.

Fairness a game

procedures thrown out

as afterthoughts

for a secret club.

As the circles moves

driving within the sand

of this long dusty road

gets harder and harder.

Extra weight on shoulders

already overburdened

can no longer fend off

excuses and defensive moves

hiding behind false conscientious tones.

Stuck inside a circle

of familiar relatives

all united as one,

I take a peek around the bend

and feel the pull

of freedom.

Your maddening spectate rings true so many times, and you certainly said said it very well. The wording was excellent, and was concise and clear to remain the masterpiece in my eyes that it is.

Families are wonderful but they can be a bit demanding at times. You have said this well in your poem.

Family Circle sometimes you feel the overload and want to be on your own great writing.

This is one of the best poems I've ever read; so true.

I think this is a feeling many can relate to. I have often felt that especially the last few lines "I take a peek around the bend and feel the pull of freedom." A very powerful and meaningful poem.

This is thought provoking. I think we all have felt the heavy load of families and friends, it's good to take a peek around the bend. Thank's for sharing...
