Family Means Acceptance

By Tony DeLorger © 2012

Each breath, each day,

with whom we choose to be, defines us,

brings us closer to happiness,

and the joy of acceptance and connection.

Family is everything,

but who is our family,

not blood, not circumstance,

creates real family.

Love is not limited to blood or anything else,

and does not deplete, be degraded or lesson

because of title, obligation or favour,

it simply thrives in open hearts.

Extended families should be about love,

the sharing of open hearts,

without jealousy, competition or contention,

open arms embracing those willing to share love.

How limited we become in conditional acceptance,

always placing those seen as outsiders,

at arms length from giving,

yet in doing so we restrict the greatest gift.

The more love one accepts into life,

the more profound and rewarding the experience,

for ourselves, our children and all those with whom we have contact,

no matter to what degree our connection.

Beautifully said, Tony. We live in a world of brothers and sisters that only our hearts will recognize. Our greatest riches come from our willingness to share our lives with others. Happy Holidays to you!
