Famous Life Quotes - Life And Death

Updated on October 18, 2017

With Life Comes Meaning!

Here we have some best, good famous life quotes about life and death. Both go hand in hand and it would be unfair not to have one without the other. This is why these quotes are an inspirational philosophy.

In these carefully selected quotations, there is an awareness of life, not only as something of an inspiration, but as a way of looking at life's meaning. We all need meaning, don't we? And you can't live a life blindly if you are seeking inspiration. It doesn't seem to match, does it?

So, baring this in mind, I have created an article with a philosophical stance that is hoped to inspire, create a meaning to your life, enhanced with some good famous life quotes to help you on your way!

Best Life Quotes Have To Be Meaningful

Everyone has a quote that they try to live life by. This is the case for me. However, my personal quote is individual and unique to me - I can truly say that the following quotation is reserved, unequivably, and is totally mine. No, I'm not famous and no, I wouldn't force-feed my perspective of life onto any undeserving soul, yet alone you dear reader! But for me it has meaning, like all sayings or quotes, it should be meaningful to the one that is receiving it.

My life Quote:

'It is not enough to love life, or ponder on it's meaning... but to live it! Life is for living!!' Shazwellyn.

Best Famous Life Quotes - Kahlil Gibran On Love

Life quotes are something to give us hope and an aim in life. I often find myself being quote philosophical when I ponder on a chance remark or something profound.

Kahlil Gibran did has done this for me on many occasions. As a poet, artist and philosopher, Kahlil Gran wrote about twenty-five books during his lifetime. His famous writings aim directly at the expression of the spirit, bringing about joy to the inner life of man.

It was Gibran's 'The Prophet' that my husband and I based our marriage vowels upon. It was the 21st of June, at a healing spring, where we uttered these words:

'Then said Almitra, speak to us of love...

Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;

For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, "I am in the heart of God."

And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, it if finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.

But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:

To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.

To know pain of too much tenderness.

To be wounded by your own understanding of love;

And to bleed willingly and joyfully.

To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;

To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;

To return home at eventide with gratitude;

And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.' Kahlil Gibran on Love - The Prophet.

Kahlil Gibran The Prophet

The Prophet (A Borzoi Book)
The Prophet (A Borzoi Book)

This has been my bible for many years. In fact, I recited the words to 'Marriage' and 'love' as part of my wedding vowels, they are so poignant and meaningful. Justified and ancient, this book provides great philosophy to life, death and the meaning of everything - it is highly recommended and a real keeper to inspiration.

Best Famous Life Quotes Have Meanings That Are Personal To You

My example highlights meanings that are true to me. Famous life quotes have meanings that are personal to you. So...

'This is my truth, tell me yours' - Quoted From Aneurin Bevan (Reference, Resource Box).

Later adopted by the Manic Street Preachers for their album of the same name, this famous quote by Bevan, emphasises that we all live in our own reality. We perceive the world differently. So what is 'truth'?

'One man's meat is another man's poison' (origin unknown) - truth, therefore, to one person isn't truth to another. A vegetarian's truth is not the truth of a meat eater, for example. Meat would certainly be like poison to the vegetarian and many meat eaters may feel the same about a Vegetarian's diet!

It is, therefore, a matter of 'Horses for courses' (First recorded use of this quote: A.E.T. Watson, Turf, 1891). In this famous saying, you might be able to identify the context of truth.

Depending on what suits us as people, determines that truth.

Unconditional Love

Understanding others perspectives of realities makes us less judgemental and more respectful of each other. It almost feels like a release - as if a burden has lifted from our shoulders when we realise this concept. We can't make people see the world as we see it, but we can learn to understand. This famous life quote by Sophocles demonstrates respect and understanding to our fellow human kind:

'One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: that word is love.' Quoted by Sophocies - Greek tragic dramatist 496 BC - 406 BC

Famous life quotes like this, reiterates what we as people need to focus on. This is not a selfish love, it is an unconditional love. One formulated on being useful without a thought of reward.

Many people feel disgruntled when they are being 'used', but as soon as this is felt, then the action of it being unconditional becomes void. Remember, life is for living and if it is lived with resentment, then it is better not to give of yourself at all.

Famous Life And Death

This reminds me of a famous life quote that many of us speak of in everyday language (source unknown):

  • 'Life is too short' Saying.

It is certainly too short to live it with resentment, anger and hatred!

  • 'It's only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth... and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up, that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had.' Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Quote On Death.

Yes, indeed, life is for living! I realised this when taking patients as a volunteer driver with the Red Cross for their cancer treatment at Radiotherapy. The news of cancer had brought with it an aura of wisdom to many of those patients. One terminal patient told me in the last few weeks of her life, that she had learned more during her transition into death, than she had in her entire life. Her dying had made her feel truly alive.

  • 'Live every act fully, as if it were your last.' Quotation From Buddha
  • “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." and “Be the change you want to see in the world.” - Mahatma Gandhi Quotation On Living Life to the full.

The above quotations, indeed, have a truly lovely inspirational philosophy borne from them. What a wonderful reality to live in and aspire toward!

We are all concerned with twitching our noses in other people's live - judging and condemning because their truth isn't ours. We all moan about the state of the world and how we want it to change.

The truth is that instead of condemnation and critiscm, the true meaning to life is to live it as well as you can. TRY and be an example to others and yourself - be that change you want to see in the world. If everyone lived life like this, then the people are empowered as a collective:

Sayings and quotes from songs are powerful life inspirations. 'Power to the people' and 'All You Need Is Love' are both songs and lyrics created by John Lennon. These famous life quotes are relevant today as they were then and it seems that, again, we have come back to love.

What comes with unconditional love is joy and it is the joy of others in our lives that makes life inspirational...

  • 'Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.' Albert Einstein Quote.

Even he had the concept of unconditional love. For every action there is a reaction. All perspectives are relative. Being sensitive to love can be all consuming and overwhelming. Being touched by love can crucify.

  • 'For even as love crowns you, so shall he crucify you' - quoted from Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet.

It is no wonder, that:

  • 'Love will tear us apart' - Quoted From Ian Curtis of Joy Division Quoted from the song of the same title.

So if you can't love completely, it is better that you shy away from it but then you can't live a complete life and experience all of the love without some of the suffering, for how do we know relief without suffering?

  • 'If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen' - Saying From Senator Harry S. Truman (1949)

Wheels within wheels

Wheels within wheels, we find that much of these philosophical undertakings keep coming back to old ground. Quotations and sayings in our everyday lives, in every thought and action, although always subject to misinterpretation, we can make things better if we choose - we can turn it all around ...

'Do you remember what you told me once? That every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around... I'll see you in another life, when we are both cats!" David (Played by Tom Cruise) in Vanilla Sky (Movie) - beautiful quotation!

But then...

“Time spent with cats is never wasted.” Sigmund Freud quote and I do love cats! And why not? They are genuine and life is about being genuine, to be true to yourself, is being true to others.

“Learn to be quiet enough to hear the genuine within yourself so that you can hear it in others.” Quote by Marian Wright Edelman

It is here, in the arms of genuine and internal silence that I refer to truth. My own unfamous quote hopes that it might just hit a cord and inspire you as I leave you to ponder on further:

'Truth is a matter of perception' Shazwellyn Quote

I am not famous, and this is no famous quote, but you wouldn't find a more genuine, kindly person with good intentions as I!

My Interpretation of the Best, Good Famous Life Quotes About Life And Death - An Inspirational Philosophy

So there was my take on best, good famous life quotes about life, death and everything. I hope that my my truth is an inspirational philosophy to you. It is not of a worthy cause to make war when we can open our hearts to each other. We are all of flesh and bone, we are all from one source, we are, therefore, a unity of one. Bless you with love.

      mynameisnotpaul - but how can we know love until we have experienced it? Not just love of your soul mate or lust, but love of your fellow human being - to embrace those that are critical of you is a hard one to swollow, but if you can do this, then you have achieved self actualization.

      Have a lovely day :)

      Well done, I enjoyed the life quotes very much.

      'Live every act fully, as if it were your last.' Quotation From Buddha

      This pretty much says it all for me. Life can be stripped away at any moment and you can blink within that moment to never see the one you love again.

      Thanks for sharing.

      So true. Love can leave you feeling as if you're at the top of the world or like a piece of trash on the road. Blah!

      Wow Shazwellyn, you strung these quotes together like a strand of pearls- each beautiful and complete within their own right, but elevated to a whole new level when bonded together.

      I like what you said about famous quotes having personal meanings to those who read them, and regular folks being able to create their own quotes. My husband experienced the deaths of many combat buddies before he reached the age of 21, and a young man I dearly loved died from cancer at the age of 21. Several years later, I met my husband and he told me, "Life is for the living." We've moved forward together, truly aware of how prescious life, and love, are so in a way we were blessed by the early tragedies that we experienced.
