Too hard to say Goodbye poem

Updated on August 10, 2013

I know things are broken

Too many words were left unsaid

There was no time to say goodbye

You were gone before I knew it

Oh dear friend,

You who have left this footprint in my heart

Everyone leaves footprints in my memory

But yours I will truly remember

If my tears could build a stairway

And a memory lane

I’d walk up to the cloud

To bring you back home

Oh dear friend,

When I had the time to tell you

The words...

I didn’t

Never thought I’d live to see the day

When the words, I should have said

Would come to haunt me

The symphony of silver tears

Overcast these gloomy nights

Which I hold onto fast because it’s darkest just before dawn

But now these lonely lullabies

Just dampen my tired eyes

Because I can’t forget you,

Not a second passes

When you are not on my mind

Your love and care I’ll never forget

I know there will come a time

When I’ll see with no more tears

Like a butterfly, you floated by

And now, I wish I knew when

You’ll be back again

For the time being, sail away unto the white clouds

Farewell, my dear friend

It’s a good thing; tears don’t show in the rain...

Beautiful poem, but sad you lost a friend it seems, at least for now? On to your next poem. : ) Great start!! (I loved your last line.)
