Finding the Way Back

Updated on June 18, 2014

It near tore him apart

To hear her say

That she was going away

He wondered what he had done

What words were said

That had stopped the love

Looking back over the years

He saw the two of them

Walking hand in hand

Never a day they didn’t say,

“I love you”

Bouquets of flowers

For most everyday

Smiles and sparkling eyes

Together they dreamed and sighed

Nights that were filled with passion

Kisses as skyrockets flared

On and on time would flow

He never thought the day would come

When she no longer loved him

It was so very strange

When her words

Became so distant and cold

He wondered what had turned her head

He wondered why she was going away

Still he continued to hold her

Praying she’d change her mind

Trying to find a way

To bring back the love

That had been lost along life’s road

He saw her drifting

So very far from him

Yet, while she still stayed

He was hope in every bright star

That shone in the night sky

Together the passion had gone

And kisses were just kisses

Nothing was the same anymore

He tried to find the thread

That had frayed

To take it and make it

The way it had been before

Came the day he saw

Her pulling out her suitcases

She was crying

Her heart was breaking

But she insisted it was something

She had to do

For in her heart

She loved him no more

While she packed

He bought her flowers

And the diamond ring

He had been promising her for so long

And he rushed home

Before she could depart

On bended knee

He presented the ring

While his heart beat like a drum

Slowly tearing apart

Then he saw the glitter

The sparkle return to her eyes

It was then that he realized

That her love for him

Had never died

It had just lost its way

Somewhere deep down inside

And her answering smile

Was like the sun

Coming out from behind the clouds

On an otherwise rainy day

The ring sparkled on her finger

As she gently kissed him

The love breaking through

Shining ever bright

And now he knew

That she’d be his

To have and to hold

For ever more
