For Ryan

I wasn't sure I wanted you

but I knew once you were here

Now every time we say goodbye

I wanna shed a tear

I hope you understand someday

it's not what i had planned

In spite of everything I know

you'll grow up to be a man

Don't be angry, don't be sad

It's nothing you didn't do

The only thing we could agree on

is how much we love you

i know I caused you a lot of pain

I'm sorry I had to go

It took five years to do it

and was harder than you'll know

I did not want to share you

I wanted you to myself

I wanted to give you everything

that one can give with wealth

All I have to give is my heart

and my time when you're with me

I'll do my best to make you proud

and be the father that i should be

I'm always here when you need me

I'm only a call away

And when it's finally up to you

you can see me everyday

How I love you so my son

for you I'd do anything

That is why I named you, Ryan

it means "Little King"

I love your grit, your determination

and your desire to be the best

I know you will succeed in life

my worries I can rest

Don't worry about my approval

or what I'm thinking of

For even if you fail at first

you'll never lose daddy's love

So try not to grow up too fast my son

Stay with me for awhile

I'm not ready for you not to need me

I need your laughter and your smile

I heard that before you were born

you're my son until you take a wife

But I don't subscribe to that theory

you're my son for the rest of my life

You're not obligated to be with me

although without you I'd be sad

Thank you so much for choosing me

and letting me by your dad...

What a heartfelt and beautiful message to your son. I can feel your pain, joy and loss.

      Great Job!
