Flash Fiction - Just As It Was Getting Good
Just As It Was Getting Good!
She wrung the pages, twisting hard before she flung them across the room. Joanna sat down and leaned forward on the old wooden chair. Placing both hands on her slumped head; she groaned, “What should I write about? What to do?”
Suddenly a large booming sound cracked outside like thunder, and then strange bright lights appeared at her window flickering luminous specks across the bedroom walls. Thinking how beautiful it all looked Joanna rushed to see what was going on, just as a whirring and grinding sound rocked the house. Another large boom shook the sky, but this time she ducked down quickly. Waited. Then slowly, eyes peaking over the sill furtively stood up and peered outside. A large silhouette of something could be seen, but what?
Suddenly, not having any time to think Joanna was whisked away by some unseen force and dumped next to what seemed to be a large crash site. Clambering down to get a closer look, Joanna was surprised at how calm she felt; in fact she felt elated. Neighbours started to slowly emerge, walking anxiously to join her. Joe, from number 37, moving in even closer suddenly jumped back. “What the hell?” He yelled. Everyone stopped and looked up.
A door on the spaceship started to slowly open. Joanna stood there in anticipation. “What did they look like?” She thought.
But just at that moment; a loud, irritating bleeping sound was heard. Then Joanna woke up, back in her room, and in her own bed. She lay there in stupefied shock.
The sound was her alarm clock; it was 7.30 and time to get up for work.
Banging on the alarm clock button, she groaned in dismay, reluctantly dragged herself out of bed and stomped out of her room. She banged her way into the bathroom and with fists waving at the ceiling screeched, “DAMN! DAMN! Just as it was getting good....fuck it!” Then just like every morning, got ready and went to work.
