Flimsy Glimpses Of The Soul

Pen to paper,

heart to heart-- that is where

the passion starts. Blooms inside

my ballpoint pen-- like a garden

in Heaven.

The ink inside grows flowered words.

I water them with descriptive downpours,

soggy metaphors--heard them all before--

but I swore I'd wash away your fears.

My poetry is written

like me-- fragile lines of imagery

put together, however unsuccessfully,

like a book without a hook--

nobody ever looks

at me.

If you'd read

between the lines,

you'd see.

More Than Meets The Eye

We've all heard it, right? That saying: There's more than meets the eye. I think that's true about everyone. The person we are in a single moment can't define our entire lifetime. Sometimes, all we have is a moment to present ourselves, and we aren't always prepared. We lead people to believe we're something we're not.

Thing is, we can't let that stop us from living our lives.

Be the best you in every moment, and understand that during some of them, the "best you" isn't the prettiest you, or the smartest you, or the most sociable you, or the bravest, or the kindest, or the most forgiving. You're just human you, and you make mistakes, and that's okay.

There's going to come a time in everyone's life when they are faced with an impossible decision, and they have to do the best they can, 'cause life doesn't wait forever for people to make up their minds. It happens with or without us.

I read a quote once, [on Facebook, so I don't know who said it], that went something like this: Don't judge my story by the chapter you came in on.

It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. It makes so much sense. If you come into a person's life when they're "winning," you have to expect that they were down at some point, or that they will be down in the future, and they could be a totally different person when faced with tragedy. If you come into someone's life during their time of misery, you have to remember that they might not have always been like that, that maybe you're the light they need to shine. Maybe, they won't always be that sad. Maybe they just haven't found anything worth smiling over.

Be somebody worth smiling about, no matter what it looks like between your lines. Always do your best to put your best self out there. Always remember there's always more than meets the eye.

Always assume the other person will forget to read between the lines, so point them in the right direction. None of us are mind readers, and we can't see you if you don't show us who you are.
