Foolish Love

Updated on January 14, 2012

I should have known

it was a farce

a ruse to fool me

lull me into a sweet sleep

with betrayal the cruel awakening.

What pleasures come

from such games,

I’ll never know.

My love was always real

forever stained upon my heart.

You always say

you’ll change for the better

make it the best

we have ever been.

Those words

contain such shallow thoughts

superficial muses

for reasons unknown.

None of it becomes

as you always walk away

punish me for sins not committed

come back around

to turn the tables

make it seem my fault.

I often wonder

why you bother.

You see

I’ve known your love denied

so clear and pure.

While my love might always

be a part of me,

I know you well.

I’ve long stopped trying

with certainty can say

that you will never

love me.
