What Would You Do For Someone You Love?

Updated on November 8, 2012

Our parents gave us life without expecting more
They taught us what it's all about, what the living's for.

What would you do for someone you love? A broad question that requires a lengthy answer and perhaps a different answer from different people. Circumstances in any situation help dictate answers to questions. Which person do you love? There are different kinds of love for different people. For example, the love you have for your parents versus the love you have for your children.

There is no way to thank your parents properly. You can only do that by the love you return to them. No matter what kind of parents they may be they are still your parents. They brought you into this world and raised you. They stood by you when you were sick, when you were growing up and thought you knew everything, when you needed help with homework and with life. What would you do for them? Would you cherish and honor them? Would you take care of them in their old age? Would you give back to them all that they gave to you? Always carry gratitude for your parents, always and guard your love for them as long as you have them because we all know they won't always be here. So, what would you do for the parents you love?

God blesses us with little ones to take into our care
To love them and to guide them and always to be there.

Then, there's your children. You brought them into the world. You share a bond with your children that no one else can share. A humorous but very true saying is "they know you from the inside out". Birth is a phenomenal experience that gets hormones going you didn't even know you had! This baby, this stranger becomes the love of your life. For the first year of his/her life you are his world too. He depends on you completely for all his needs.

Children are basically "little you" in many ways and yet they are definitely their own person. You start to realize that when they start to learn the word "no". They become people as they learn to walk and talk and be independent.

They are what you taught them and they live how you showed them. What would you do for them? Usually that answer is anything. The love you have for your children is unconditional and it goes without saying whenever they need you, you are there for them. Even when they are grown and out of the house they are still your children and you always want the best for them.

No matter where they are or what they do you love them. You forgive anything and you would do anything for them. What would you do for your children?

To love and to cherish you are my heart
We're grown together right from the start.

What would you do for someone you love if that someone you love is your spouse? What is a spouse definition? A married person, a partner in marriage. This is a different kind of love. This is a love that you have specifically chosen. A sharing and growing together with your partner that you can't explain. This person comes into your life and all of a sudden you know you love them. Is there a love test to find out if you love them? Of course not, it is something you know in your heart. When you marry someone you marry them because you love them and want to spend the rest of your life with them. There are good times and there are bad times but love guides you through. You learn to share in ways you never knew. You learn to put this person before all else.

You sacrifice for your spouse without telling him. You do it because you love him. You do little things to make him happy, like having supper ready when he comes home from work, or getting a babysitter so you can spend an evening together. You let him go to the football game with his friends....all things you know will make him happy. That's what you do for someone you love, you try to make them happy which should then make you happy!

So to answer the question what would you do for someone you love? Anything and everything. You would sacrifice anything, do anything and be anything that would help them and make them happy. You would give them everything you could but mostly you would give them yourself, the greatest gift of all!

So true Curiad and thanks for sharing!

And you Tim, your words are so meaningful.

Bernard your words are always beautiful and the poem here adds so much!

Abbykorinnelee, that's what its all about, loving and forgiving, over and over!

Nyamache, our parents are our parents...taking care of them and spending time with them takes on a new meaning as we age!

This is very true and we will never change it "No matter what kinds of parents they are they are still your parents." Taking care of parents and spending time with them is how we can show our love to them as their children.

I am beyond loyal to those I love and will stand by them through anything and everything, even if I don't agree with them, but if they abuse all I have to offer one to many times (usually about five since I am too forgiving) I will cut you off and I will love you and I will forgive you but god help if you hurt me or anyone I love.

Make your love one feel special everyday.

Do not allow your lives to become routine -

prepare lots of different activities to enjoy.

Never take your loved one for granted.

      Keep your love forever precious,

      sacred and beautiful.

What you put into your love

is what you will get out of your love.

      Enrich your lives with prayer.

Always be your partners best friend.

Janine I am glad you too know the 'love of all three' is a blessing and a joy n our lives. So glad you enjoyed this hub. Thank you for passing it on!

SS I will definitely re-listen to the song as I think I've seen Act of Valor...however, I will double check on your recommendation!

Keith Urban has a song titled For You. This song was written for the movie Act of Valor, which by the way if you haven't seen this movie yet I highly recommend it.

To my point...he sings about taking a bullet for love. That's what I'd also do.

Excellent hub, filled with love. By the way be sure and watch Keith's video on YouTube! :)

Mary, this article is true and speak so volumes on so many different levels. I am blessed to know the unconditional love of all three--my parents, my children and my spouse too. For that I feel blessed and you are right when you say I do anything and give them all of me. Very much enjoyed reading this and as I said I can relate totally. Have voted, shared and tweeted too!!

I agree Jools, selfishness doesn't work with love.

Mary, love is about being unselfish I think - it's the feeling that is always there for those you discussed here and means you always put yourself second if that is what is needed and your prize for this is their love in return.

Love is sacrifice....without complaint. You're right....what parents wouldn't do for their child, their own parents, and being a teacher, what they wouldn't do for their students!! Its really sacrifice without complaint, if you really love a person. A warm hub (wonder why it's sleeping, but lets wake it up!! Votes up and across!!

Mary you are so right, love is subjective and showed by different people in different ways.

Sky it makes me happy that you enjoy my writing. I was thinking of you when I wrote this hub and your devotion to your parents.

Ruby, thank you so much for the praise. Glad you enjoyed my hub.

      So true Kevin.

Michele, how right you are. We need prayer like a flower needs rain.

      Ronnie glad you enjoyed!

WD, your compliment was heart warming. I tried to find picturres I thought might work with my writing.

Effie, where do I being to comment on your comment? I can't imagine you could ever be a b****, me on the other hand ;) Almost every year for the past 45 years I've forgotten my wedding anniversary, but not my husband. Could it be our husband's are alike too? P.S. I used to always have nails like that...I think old age is drying them out. Of course you would notice!

Donna you really delved into the matter, everything you said is right on.

What would I do for someone I love? Sometimes we do not even know what the answer is until a situation demands it and then we realize how committed we are to other people, what sacrifices we are willing to make and how we feel about them. Love is a wonderful thing and normally it is not love until we have done something about it and it seems every waking moment of our lives we are fulfilling this fact knowingly or unknowingly. Thanks for writing and sharing.

Till....Beautiful hub about love and what it means to each of us. My sons and their wives & kids? I am at their disposal at all times for whatever they need, like you say, "No matter what." That's always been and always will be. They know they OWN my heart.

Hubby gets my love & energies on a daily basis....unless I'm being a "B" for some reason (lol)...then I make him beg! lmao....Seriously, he happens to be a really lovable kind of guy, maybe even more demonstrative than I am. Sometimes it's flattering...sometimes I think to myself, "Oh, Jeesh...Go away for 5 minutes!!" Hey, I'm being HONEST.....that's who I am.

I have to say that we get along famously and make each other laugh...a LOT!!

Sadly, my parents are no longer with us, nor is my only sibling, Patricia, whom I miss every single day of my life....and of course, love them all....

Cute pic of you and hubby sharing a sip of Anniversary drinks! Pretty shirt you have on...& I love your manicure! Leave it to another woman to notice things like that!! Great hub...keep pumpin out, GF!! You're a rock star!

Anything and everything because you love and love gives off happiness and if they are happy , you should automatically be happy. Well you could not have said it any better . Because that the way I feel with my mother, and I am so glad that I at least could say it'ds the ultimate in beauty , and because it's true , truth is healthy.

A beautiful piece tillsontitan, and I can feel the experience in your words .

Keep up those great writing, for this is what it will take to help fix this .

      Blessings .
