ForgotteN (A poem)

Updated on January 28, 2011

As he rests his head into his broken hands,

And tries to resurrect his forgotten past,

He doesn't see the blinding light,

The light that kills, the light that binds,

His memories fade to nothing, his mind slips into insanity,

As the cold fingers of hatred grasp his soul,

And ices it over again and again,

He tries to escape these slithering coils,

He tries to scream his reckoning to the world,

But the blood on his hands muffles his cries,

His desires and dreams,

His hopes and wishes,

They burn away in the flickering flame,

In a Hell that he has created all his own,

He can't escape this burning regret,

He can't evade this seeping anger,

Or this poisonous depression,

He struggles against the hands of fate,

As they suffocate his very essence,

And threaten to take his breath away forever,

The tears flow down his cheeks like rain,

His cries of pain tear through the heart,

And his clenched fists hint his agony,

His body is fighting a losing battle,

Against Hell itself,

And he has lost...

As his body lies limp, the coils slither away,

Having done their bloody handiwork,

His eyes wide and glassy, his breath gone forever,

The clouds cluster together and cry their rain,

Onto his motionless body,

The droplets run down his pale skin,

And sink into the soil of his dreams,

And as the earth swallows his broken corpse,

A gust of wind blows,

It sings its song to the Heavens themselves,

And forgets his memory forever.
