Freelance Writing: Freedom or Hunger?

Updated on May 15, 2015

It started as just a part time hobby; I started writing articles here on hubpages, helium and associated content. So far, I have been writing here for four years and it has been good, great and lately the bottom has seemed to drop out. I have tried to analyze why I am not making the money on hubpages that I once did. Some blame it on the Google updates. I have mixed emotions; I know I used to do real well with E-Bay until hubpages stepped in. Don't get me wrong, I still like the place and the set up, but I have had to find some other paths to make money. I have authored some books which you can find at the link below; I am getting some sales but not enough to keep food on the table. As of late I have been looking for freelance writing jobs. Let me tell you about that.

The freelance writer's market is a jungle. I feel like a lion cub facing the jungle for the first time on its own and facing the dangers and obstacles.

I have been weeding through so many web sites and articles. I have received spam after spam in my email because of some of the "scam" sites.

I am getting closer and I believe soon I will "land" some decent freelance writing jobs. In the mean time there is a lot of fasting and prayer.

The reason I write this hub is to help others. I have been fighting through this freelance jungle and I have found good sites, great sites and terrible sites. I am going to share the good and great sites, because there is no sense that you should have to fight through the freelance jungle since I already have.

Below is a detailed list of some of the better freelance writing sites and I hope that you and I can land some freelance writing jobs:

  • Scripted- I find this to be a top-of-the-line freelance writers site. You will have to prove yourself and after you do, there are some very good paying freelance writing jobs.
  • Simply Hired- Be careful here, it is just job listings from everywhere. Check the link before you click.
  • Academic Experts-For experts, from experts-A great site and they are very picky.
  • Seeking Alpha-Looking for articles on the stock market and economic articles.
  • Know More Media-Seems good, still waiting for an answer from them.
  • Writer Access-Another Great Site!
  • Dollar articles showing money saving techniques.
  • Eco 20-20-Write about green.
  • Highlights-Write for children
  • TextBroker-This seems like an excellent site also. I have submitted test articles and my I.D. They seem very professional.
  • Visual Travel Tours- This is for those of you that want to write about travel.
  • Sun Magazine-Not an online site but a magazine. They pay well!

These should get you started. I will do my best to follow up this hub with how I am doing with it and more places.

Don't let the freelance jungle get the best of you. Great writers are always needed and we have to keep fighting.

Now if you will please, buy some of my books so I can go get a hamburger. There are a few of them listed below.

I think you've put together a great list of sites for people looking for work opportunities. It's a great way to get started until you have steady work from repeat clients.

Useful writing, Froggy. I haven't been out there in that jungle yet. Still getting my foot out the door. I'm more into novel writing which I know can be hit or miss. Thanks for sharing your views. I look forward to seeing you around the hubs!

      Mmm...rice soup...

      Oh, yeah...sorry, I got distracted...

Keep up the fight, Froggy! We just got to keep adapting to the rapidly changing world of the Internet! I do hope HP picks up again, though...

I have few jobs for you.

Hamburgers aren't good for your health; you have still some warm and tasty rice soup in the pot.

One day you will be King of the Jungle; until then, it's a numbers game and a game of persistence. Hang in there and pay your dues; good things will happen. They did for me! :)
