Dr. Bill's first passion is family history. His second is a passion for creating family saga, historical fiction stories that share it.

1. HubPages buys content from Squidoo.com

Change is with us always! See the announcement in the link, below.

Are you currently involved with both, like I am? What was your reaction? It seems our friend, Seth Godin, saw an opportunity to cash out the growth he helped build in another start-up… on to HugDug, and his other ventures! ;-)

Although I've already switched most of my current writing time to HubPages from Squidoo.com, I am still an active Lensmaster at Squidoo.com with 157 Featured lens. {Aside: I recently updated all my lenses at Squidoo.com - good for me. I eliminated a couple that I didn't feel were worthy. Therefore, they should all transfer.}

Personally, I see this as a great way to have a "General" platform, here at HubPages, it will be under DrBillSmithWriter. These go along with Homeplace Series, here, where I only write about writing, like this, and my "The HomeplaceSaga" series of family saga historical fictions stories; including th e "The Kings of Oak Springs." As Dr Bill-WmL-Smith, I am publishing my "Weston Wagons West" series of historical fiction store that involve my ancestors over the last nearly 400 years here in the USA.

My Squidoo lenses feature my Family History and Genealogy writing, along with Heritage Tourism lenses/articles. These are along with all the seasonal and "general" articles that are popular on Squidoo along with quite a number of Amazon product reviews (books, movies, products).

Let's now move on to some the other implications of this move. What do you think?

2. I will have three HubPages accounts - is that good, or bad?

I must admit some anxiety as to what having three (very active) accounts on HubPages will mean. I'm already a bit frustrated with the duplication of "followers" with the first two. I'd be willing to consider consolidating them, but I know that is not in the cards anytime soon. On the other hand, there are specific benefits to having them separate. What has your experience been?

I'd really like to consolidate for purposes of "payments" of course, assume that would be a benefit. That could fairly easily be done, but I'm uncertain whether the "powers that be" have any interest in that. I've not spent much time on the forums, to date, investigating the current discussion on this issue. Have you? Hope you'll share comments on this one. Thanks, in advance.

3. Impact of Amazon and Google on the merged site

The changes in Google evaluations, of course, were mentioned in the announcement. Hub Pages was said to be in a better position to take advantage of the new guidelines for the users - us. Hoping that is true. I am certainly aware that Squidoo had been struggling with this. What are your thoughts?

I have already seen comments on the use of Amazon modules/capsules on our hubs/lenses. They have been used much more extensively on Squidoo than on HubPages. Changes are expected, but what will they be? Do you know? What are your desires, or hopes?

Are there other similar issues to be considered?

Each of us will need to monitor the situation closely. I see the Forum Threads are beginning to heat up. I suppose a certain amount of negativity is to be expected from those who are receiving a good cash stream, already, on HubPages. Since I'm out in the middle of the pack, I assume, I prefer to look to the positives. The owners of HubPages want us all to be successful, so that they will be successful. Adding quality content will do that. The algorithms they have developed to convert the Squidoo content to the HubPages formats should assure that continued high quality.

I must note a very positive Welcome Forum Thread by Phyllis Doyle. Thanks, Phyllis.

Best wishes to each of us! ;-)

I hadn't heard about Squidoo...and I don't hang out in the forums....and I honestly don't have an opinion about having more than one Hub page....I'm just here to write and share the sense of community. :) I hope someone has some answers for you.

      Have a great weekend, Bill.

Interesting stuff here. I do not think it effects an amateur like myself.

It seems to me that it would be difficult having two acounts to keep up with on hp, but i've never done that so who knows? Wishing you success on writing..

It is a challenge, but I am adapting. Adapting to changing circumstances is always tough, but I just try to take one step at a time. I've actually, just now, got them each set up in a different browser, each with a different email address... so I can go from one to the other without being confused. I think it is actually going to work. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! ;-)

I have wondered about the multiple accounts idea myself and know that others gave tried it. I just have one, as there is no need for me to separate my content. I hadn't heard of the Squidoo HP news.

These are certainly very interesting times for both hubbers and lensmasters! There are a lot of things to think about in regards to the merger, but hopefully the end result will be good for us all.

I was a bit disappointed about Squidoo ending and merging with HubPages because I was actually thinking about writing for the site. But oh well. It is what it is. This is a great hub:)

Thanks for stopping by, AR. You are always welcome. We are all anxiously awaiting the new opportunities here. Writing on Squidoo was really quite a different experience. I'd only written a few, in recent months, on special occasions. They had just seemed to have lost their direction, with the changes from Google, it seemed to me. No ones, fault, really. Just changing time. Onward and upward! ;-)

Writer Fox... thanks for stopping by. I've seen many of your comments on the Forums. HP has heavy concentration of outstanding writers. This is an excellent writer's platform, and has been for some time. Hopefully, it will continue to be. If we each follow the direct and straight forward guidelines on this site, it is a very delightful, even exciting, experience. I've found tremendous support there in my several months of experience... and nearly a hundred hubs. ;-)

I checked out Squidoo a few months ago, and even opened an account. But everything about the site seemed so foreign to me I was never motivated to post anything there. So I admire people like you who seem to be "bilingual." And now we're all one big HP family. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds.
