From Bee To Thee

In spring and in summer
of each seasonal year,
if you're out and about,
you're likely to hear
the soft busy hum of
my swift tiny wings.
As I doggedly work,
my buzz ever sings.
From flower to flower,
with purpose and grace,
I visit each blossom
to kiss its sweet face.
I gather up samples
of nectar so fine,
to make my rendition of
fruit of the vine.
Then back to my hive
will I carry my wares,
where my many co-workers
then greet me with theirs.
Production commences
in secret, it's true...
a process complex
that is known to but few.
Delectable honey
is what we provide,
a thick, golden sweetness,
to humans worldwide.
So in spring and in summer,
when blossoms are fair,
you'll hear my sweet buzzing
and know why I am there.

Lovely pictures. I have a soft spot for bees as we keep bees to provide fragrant honey for our Bed and Breakfast guests in Limousin, France. Just now the garden is full of bees of all sorts, including the sprectacular, huge, black Carpenter bees.

Simon, your comment made me chuckle...if only you knew! I have probably taken several thousand pics between here in Maryland and the farm in Pa in the past month and a half! Maybe more! I don't do things half way...if its worth doing its worth overdoing!!! It has kept me sane these past few months and that is what counts. I can't wait to see your photo of the day! Hugs!

One of my Iowa cousins was a bee-keeper, and my grandmother always had several combs in a large jar. We put that honey and churned butter on her homemade bread.

Sunnie, I am glad you lived to tell the tale, and pray you don't have to clear any more libraries! A quick little story...I always told my little boys to stay out of the woods because it was dangerous, but like curious little critters, they were always drawn there...one summer day, I was doing dishes and the boys had gone out to play. I heard this gut-wrenching screaming start and knew right away something was horribly wrong. I ran out the front door to find my middle son, who was maybe 5 at the time running across the yard, well more like dancing across the yard, screaming like a banshee, trying to tear his pants off. He and his brother had gone into the woods and he had kicked over a bees' nest and they had attacked him...flew up his pants. He had over 30 stings from head to toe!

Thanks be to God, he was not allergic but I dosed him up with benedryl, coated him up with meat tenderizer paste, and watched him like a hawk for the next 24 hours. They did not wander into the woods again...true story!

You are so right they do demand respect for sure..I cleared a whole library one time as a couple wasps were swarming around..That was in my younger years when I had the life threatning reaction..I thnk I have calmed down since then..lol

Thanks, Sunnie! I understand your fear, with such an allergy, bees can be very dangerous...and life threatening...they are amazing creatures, in spite of it all, and demand respect!

      Beautiful write Tenderheart,

We have several bloosoms that attract tons of bee's and you can walk out the morning and hear them humming from the deck..one problem I am deathly allergic and carry an Epi pen..I am always outside and knock on wood have not been stung in many years..I am acutally scared to say that out loud..:)..anyway seeing the bees work so hard is a wonderful thing..helping other things grow so beautifully.

      Thank you,

      Sunnie
