GOOGLE, A simple, poetic tribute

Updated on August 29, 2016

An Upstate WNYer,Paula shares her expertise in preparing for a season of Old Man Winter, while remaining, productive, happy, safe & warm.

Was there information before google?

What did we ever do before google? I ask myself a similar question about many of the fabulous conveniences we have today. Our cell phones for ongoing communications, microwaves that prepare our food within just minutes and think about the ease of sending documents and photos via Fax!

Was it at least a hundred years ago we marched off to the library to spend hours on research? We delved into books and copied down facts. We may have even consulted with experts and others.

Now we just pull up a chair in front of our computer, the major source for vast volumes of facts and data. We had no idea our fingertips were magical......so let's take a look to see what we might find!

a-HA! That's what I'm looking for!

A Simple Poetic Tribute to the World Wide Web of Information

ASK GOOGLE ANYTHING!!

Who is the guy who wrote, "The Departed?"

The woman who left DiMaggio, brokenhearted?

You know......................................

I wonder about the meaning of life...

Or what is the best way, to sharpen a knife?

Quite honestly..................................

It makes me laugh, when people ask,

What do you put inside of a flask?

How funny it is that no one knows

Why onions have skin & garlic has toes

But seriously.........................

If everyone, everywhere, knew everything

They would not need ask how canaries can sing.

We think we're so smart and show off a lot

But tell me, oh wise one, why is fire so hot?

I see that .......................................

You chuckle when someone says you are dumb

Do you know why one finger is called a thumb?

Gosh, I need to know why sugar is sweet

And how many bones are in our feet

By the way......................

When you look up, do you wonder why

It seems that there is no end to the sky?

The questions are plenty but answers are few

It's a mystery to me, How about you?

Oh me, oh my.....................

Are you tired of wondering all of these things?

Like why we are here and why a Bee stings?

Or................................

Do bears sleep all winter and some birds fly south?

Is there really a Big Foot, does he have a Big Mouth?

May I ask?..............................

Do you want to know how to pitch a tent?

And understand what A word really meant?

Hey, tell me.................................................

If someone is hurt, do you know how to help?

Can you tell the difference between coral and kelp?

I think it's crazy, know what I mean?

That people seek magic to make themselves lean.

I wonder.............................................................

Do you struggle and search for one little word?

You're not the first, or second or third.

I'm grateful for google, what else could we do?

When we need an answer for something that's new.

It's History, Geography, Science and more

The questions are piled from ceiling to floor

The truth is................................................

You think this is funny, my head is a-buzz

Don't laugh please, my friend, I'll tell you because

You must understand, not to chuckle or smirk

It's not cute at all, to show such a quirk

Listen please...................................................

Instead, if you wonder, "What is a bugle?"

For crying out loud....Don't Giggle....Just Google!!

What do you want to know?

There ! See what I mean? A world of answers appears before our eyes. It's never been so easy to bring knowledge into our lives. We've a treasure of learning in one special place.

How can we not love this??

I'm DONE! Thank you, google!

All in a day's googling!!
All in a day's googling!!

How does google rank?

How often do you Google?

Hi Ryan, thank for stopping by. I'm glad you had fun with my Google Poem. I really do wonder how we ever got by without it, the majority of our lives.

It's so amazing when we can simply sit down at our computer, in our own home, and with a click, find the answers to pretty much anything we are curious about! Have a good evening! Paula

What a fun and awesome poem. I remember when I had to look in a book or on a map to find the answer. Now curiosity is answered within seconds at our fingertips. Great work.

I just read an article about Google.....it was really interesting. It prompted me to dig out this poem I wrote SO LONG ago!.....Also.................................

Speaking of, "So long," for a while.

Going out West, for a week and five days.

My niece and family living Montana ways.

I've never been and can't wait till I get there

So much to do and see and share.

I've missed them so much, need to see them all smile

Can't wait to hug, chat and laugh for a while.

A few days with them and off to see son and wife

My grand daughter too, the loves of my life.

California, so far away for Gram to go!

But what a grand trip it will be I know

Hold down the fort oh friends of mine

If possible, promise to drop you a line!!

Be back soon....Stay happy. Keep writing! Paula

Can I convince you to encourage your muse to create a little poetry? C'mon!

Au fait......Speaking of "adding brightness to our day," I couldn't have awakened to a nicer comment! Thank you so much. I feel very appreciated! For a pretty genius, you're extremely sweet! LOL.

The advice columnist hubs are in my profile list. It's Gabby Van Gibberish. There are 2 of them. She's happily residing at the Rest Home currently One has a picture of her at her computer and the other a cat wearing glasses, reading the newspaper.

All I can say is, "Thank you so much.".....Peace, Paula

How delightful! This is incredible! You really need to publish a collection of your poems and those articles you wrote (I'm sorry I don't remember their names and they aren't' on your profile page because I looked -- where did they go?) where a woman answered questions like Dear Abby. Those were hilarious and so imaginative too. I love them, and this poem, and the last one I read, too. If they've been idled then you need to check the right box so they are listed again.

Voting this up and BAI. Also sharing because everyone needs to read this just to add some brightness to their day! Yes, and pinned to my 'Fun and Interesting Subjects,' board. You are greatly under appreciated on this site.

These "sing-song" type poems have a tendency to get stuck in our heads like a catchy tune......

So...hey my friend, let your mind go wild

Just free up your clever inner child

working or playing or just sitting still

Fabulous! I use google daily, although I don't ask quite so silly questions. Well, maybe I do. Let's face it. Google saves us a trip to the library. Imagine doing research for articles for HP. We'd get far less done for sure.

LOL.....OH, California Boy......How are you? Good to hear from you. I'm sure you have taken notice that I have seriously minimized my "Time," in Hubville. Too many reasons to mention.... But I still do VISIT, when I can.

Google is just like anything we didn't have for half our life.....finally have it.....only to be completely baffled by how the HELL we ever got along in life, without it.

As a die-hard Boomer, I walk around in somewhat of a state of amazement, as well as Amusement (I'm easily amused, of course) every single day. I'm a "simple-life," sort of lady......so I find myself continually thinking, "WOW," when it's all so E-Z, now! Heck, Rick, I still get a thrill, when I get a PHONE CALL where EVER the hell I am! For a long time, I gave up Religion and just worshiped my microwave and computer. To think we can wonder about the most incredibly rare, bizarre, off-the-wall subject, in the kitchen.....and walk to the desk, and discover anything and everything, there is to KNOW about it, just blows my flippin Boomer mind!!! LOL......

Thanks, Rick, but I think I can only pull off a nonsense poem, once in awhile......I'm DEFINITELY no "Poetic Fool" or Vincent Moore!!!!

Paula, I have to apologize. I addressed my last comment to Cat. She writes rhymes and riddles like yours, so I guess I thought I was in one of her hubs. Forgive me! I probably saw her name in my feed making a comment on yours and assumed it was hers. But, what better way to find another awesome hubber! I love yours too! Still voting up and awesome! And, now I have a new friend. Have a great day! :-)

    Paula,

Ooops! I just thought it was so delightful, I couldn't help but share... sorry if some of the props were misdirected, not intentional, I swear! :D

I do appreciate your willingness to share the glory, and there's no other hub I'd like to receive glory for more, than this one :D ... hey, guess this kind of works out for both of us eh? lol You're awesome! Hugs!

What a concept, what a plan, what a benefit for the average man. And if Google weren't around, we'd all be dumb and wear a frown.

Good job on the wonder of Google. Your poetry is amazing!!!

I love this! How cute this is. You are so clever and this poem is excellent. I wish I could rhyme like you. I just don't seem to have that internal beat. This is so funny, too. I am an everyday googler. In fact, I wouldn't know what to do without it. When I taught, and a student asked a question I didn't have the answer for or didn't know the answer, we just stopped class right there and googled it. Instant answer and usually more discussion on the topic. I know Google is criticized all the time, but I have always loved it and found it so helpful. Great tribute to google.

Cat - You are so creative! Why can't I have a mind like yours. After all, I use to write poetry. Maybe I should google that as well. LOL. I love your contributions, especially the recent poetry. It makes me smile when I read them.

By the way, I'm up to $3.77 for May thus far. One more day... maybe I'll break $4. Woohoo!

    Paula,

Oh my lanta this is hilarious! It's funny, I have to admit; I'm guilty as charged. I 'Google' so much I use it as a verb. You know what's really scary? When looking for information on the internet, sometimes the popular answer wins over the correct one! I can't confirm this isn't the case because I haven't read all the fabulous comments, but I'll be surprised if someone didn't attempt to scientifcally explain why fire is so hot! :D

Up and all those blue buttons! SHARING, 'cause I can and I want to!

Now there's my Birthday Party Group, if ever! I wonder if we would "behave?" Since at least "3 of us" are in that wild and crazy Senior Citizen group...you young'uns better be careful.

How wonderful to hear from so many GREAT hub-buddies on the same hub, on a special day. I'm glad you enjoyed my Google Rhyme....

Confession: This one came to me, while paying bills (away from my computer).....I got so frustrated, trying to turn $100 into $500.....I wondered if I could "google" how to do THAT!.....See, I'm whacky even when I'm home alone....I crack myself up. Is this a sign of something seriously bad? I mean, hey guys.....you can tell me....do I have issues or what? Love you all.

Where us that "delightful" button? This deserves the title delightful for sure. I am a Google fanatic. When away, I make a list of things to search out on that site. Up all the way !

So lovely to see you on HP again, Paula. I'm not sure how I missed this one the first time around, but I'm so glad it hit the radar today. A day doesn't go by (unless my computer's "down") that I don't "Google" for info. (When a noun becomes a verb through mass usage, you know it's incredibly popular.)

I remember decades ago how often I phoned the main library's reference librarian for information that I now access online in a moment's time. This is one aspect of technology I happily embrace.

By the way, "Happy Birthday, Paula...Happy Birthday to You!" (You'll have to imagine that being sung.)

    Great poem, great hub--Voted Up++++

I was giggling at your "Google" before I put on my goggles to see this quip a little clearer. I had just finished gargling and watching the gaggle of geese go by. LMAO and wishing you the happiest of birthdays too!

I didn't know that whacky, funny, talented and joyful existed in one package (other than my wife) until I googled it and saw your photo! LOL

    Again,

    Happy Birthday Paula! Happy Birthday!

    Voted UP and shared.

Isn't Google amazing? I've been missing you, Effer, so I thought I'd google to see where you are. Then I thought better of that and thought I'd pop on over to your place here to make sure all is well in your world. I just read your rhymed response above to my previous post on this hub. heehee. Good to see you again!
