Getting Together Again

Updated on October 8, 2014

In the early days

They were inseparable in every way

Whether it was night or day

There was always so much to say

Two people very much in love

Always hand in hand

When apart longing for one another

Velvety dark nights

Soft candlelight

But they were still so very young

The world still unexplored

Somewhere along the way

Came the day

When they just drifted apart

As the years went by

She’d think of him from time to time

How he made her days

Shine even when the skies were gray

How he’d play love songs just for her

Tell her how much he cared

Hold her deep in the night

Whispering of his true love

It seemed like only yesterday

When suddenly things turned around

And often she wondered why

As the years went by

He would think of her still

There was no new love in his life

He often wondered

What it was that he’d done

Perhaps their worlds

Just became too different

Perhaps the love that he thought was there

Was not really real

And so they drifted one without the other

Until came the day

When she realized that is was yesterday

That really shined

That it was yesterday

When he was her love

He came to realize

That perhaps there was much more

Much more to their love

Than he had thought before

And so he started the journey back home

Where he hoped love was waiting

With welcoming arms

That she too realized

That they were meant to be together

Could overcome all the differences

And make today shine as bright as yesterday

Early in the morning

She didn’t know how she knew

But her heart beat ever faster

And she knew he was coming back

There she waited for the knock upon the door

Bottle of wine, candles lit

Roses strewn all about

Several hours later

He arrived

Hesitant and unsure

Hoping she was waiting

As she opened the door

He saw her brilliant smile

He realized that she had longed for him

Just as he had longed for her

The waiting was over

The love was there

Shining as brightly as yesterday

As they came together

In a sweet, tender kiss

Their yesterdays had melted into today

And promises of many, many tomorrows

Lovely poem. It's always good when something works and we're lucky that we get a second chance! A very happy ending to a lovely story.

You know how I always publish my poems. One or two photos and then the text in one part or two depending on the length. I received a notice from HubPages that this poem won't be featured because of quality. I made a third division and added one more photo. However I saw no point in doing that I thought it was just fine. You know if I have to start worrying about every poem I post it just won't be worth my while anymore. Just some thoughts while going through my hub mail.

Thank you Shauna. I believe I'm going to begin with some of my older poems and see how that goes and then the newer ones.

Thank you Eric. Glad to hear this made you feel good.
