God Is Love, but Where Are All Lovers?: a Satirical Poem

Updated on July 30, 2017

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

Many were born not out of love but lust

and many spent whole life unloved and odd

with so many others having kissed the dust

while falling in the name of someone's god.

Eons have passed since the Word was spoken

one about sacrifice, compassion and love

but more often than not that faith was broken

with just surviving stories of a heaven above.

If there are true lovers they must live in hide

humble after taming their wicked heart

reluctant to proclaim a god as their guide

just living His truth enlightened and smart.

You may have heard all others loud and clear

about a Judgement coming of one kind or another

preaching about the evil and how the end is near

hateful and intolerant, but calling you a brother.

So strange is this world with their belief

not really knowing if they are coming or going

altruism and love expired with no grief

just everyone reaping whatever they were sowing.

With so many gods, each with love as their name

in this world wallowing in war and pretense

where are all lovers, or is it all the same

loving or hating in this godless lack of sense?

Beautiful poem with great message. It's true that many were and always born out of lust, not of Love. The Love part is ignored by most and it is only the lust that prevails all over.

Amen to that. I like the way you point out a flaw in organised religion without coming across as insulting.

Welcome to primitive earth, Val. When people realize that they must give up man's hateful religions, progress may be made in finding love. Nice poetic way of putting it.
