God Helps Those Who Help Themselves: A Story

Updated on October 5, 2019

Once upon a time, a farmer lived in a distant village. It was rainy in those days, there was water in the pits all around. The rough road became slippery due to rain. In the morning, the farmer had to go to the market to earn some money with a bullock cart, but today due to rain, there was a lot of problem. Nevertheless, the farmer was slowly going towards the market with a careful bullock cart.

Suddenly a pit came on the way and the wheel of the bullock cart got stuck in the pit. It was quite difficult to get out of the mud filled pit. The bull also applied his full strength but did not succeed. Now the farmer got very upset. He looked around but could not see far in bad weather. The farmer started thinking that no human could be seen asking whom to help. The farmer sat on one side unhappy and his mind started cursing his fate. Oh God! What did you do to me? Why can't any man see me so bad luck? The farmer was going to curse his own fate.

When a monk passed away from there, he saw the farmer, and the farmer went to the monk and started telling his problems. I have been sitting here since morning, my car is stuck and my luck is so bad that nobody even came to help me. God has done a lot of injustice to me. The monk said after listening to all his words- You have been sitting here for so long, cursing your destiny and speaking ill of God, have you tried to get your car out?

Farmer - No,

Sannyasi - Then for what reason are you blaming God, God helps those people who help themselves.

Now the farmer got the point, he immediately tried to get the wheel and he was successful too.

So friends, most of us are like that farmer who does not want to do anything himself and always curses his fate and other people. We feel that God has done much wrong with us. Some of us want to be a doctor, an engineer, a collector, a businessman, but when we are not successful in our work, then the idea comes to our mind that our fate is bad and God has not given anything. But perhaps you are forgetting that God has given you, all of us, a very priceless thing - this body. You have every ability, so why are you confident of luck? God also helps those who help themselves. A great man has a couplet.

Meaning without working you cannot get anything. As if you have a fan in front of you, but he will not give you air until he will not let it swing through his hand.

So friends, the essence of this article is that if you help yourself, only God will help you, so come together today and take an oath that you will never curse your destiny and become your masters themselves.
