Mythology is one of my greatest passions. I love to research, read, and write about the great goddesses of ancient times.
I have always wanted to have at least one room in my home to reflect the goddess of my choice, where time stands still and serenity abides. It would look like a goddess would enjoy lounging there. I have the perfect book to help me with this. GODDESS AT HOME, by A. Bronwyn Llewellyn, is the beautifully illustrated book I found and have so enjoyed -- it is an inspiration for my dream room.
Goddess At Home
Which goddess are you ?
Every woman has a goddess within. To invoke the goddess within and get in touch with your self, bring into your home the paintings, statues, colors, style of the goddess you are most connected to.
Find out about the attributes and titles of the ancient goddesses. The Greek goddess of love is Aphrodite. Goddess of the hunt is Artemis. Demeter is the mother goddess of Earth, the harvest and all living things.
Impression of you ~
Llewellyn has given us the secrets in how to invoke the Greek goddesses in our homes.
Provide your guests with an enchanting and beautiful impression of you and your home by invoking the beauty of a goddess in your entry hall. When one walks through this serene and lovely space you created, all cares will be left behind as they luxuriate in your world of beauty and grace.
Turn your bedroom, bathroom, living, or any other room (or your whole house), into your own special haven of beauty. Llewellyn provides suggestions room by room and goddess by goddess exactly how to bring out the goddess in you and reflect that in your home. The photographs are beautiful, beyond description and will help you to design and enhance your dream room.
Divine inspiration ~
The divine interior look of the rooms in Goddess At Home has been inspired by Aphrodite, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Hera, Hestia, and Persephone.
Each one of these goddesses has their own attributes and unique beauty.
In the introduction, Llewellyn notes that we can welcome every aspect of our favorite goddess into our home, just as the Greeks did in their life.
Their homes were like temples to welcome the beauty and energies of their sacred goddesses.
Can you imagine drifting off to slumber in a bedroom that surrounds you in beauty and the divine aspects of Aphrodite? She is the goddess of love, passion, and beauty.
Demeter and Persephone ~
Can't decide which goddess ?
Llewellyn shows us how to create each room in a different style to reflect a different goddess. How about sitting in your living room that invokes the pure and primitive femininity of Artemis, goddess of the hunt, nature, and independence? Athena in your office can invoke wisdom, civilization and the arts in useful and practical ways.
Bring Persephone and her attributes into your garden or shrine, your private room to relax in. A place where you can let your mind wander, cares slip away and drift from the stress of daily life.
Llewellyn will help you design your home to give you that special feeling and to invoke the goddess in you.
Ferns next to a statue of your goddess will add a light, airy touch ~

You can do it, it is within you ~
I was so anxious to receive my book and begin creating my home to reflect the goddess within me. When I first began reading the book and looking at the pictures, I felt amazed at the prospect of redoing my entire home. Yet, at the same time, I was a bit discouraged, for to create a room like is shown in the pictures would be quite expensive -- far out of my budget range.
However, I am very creative and frugal and realized that over time, I can do this. I can have my home reflect me, my goddess, without spending a fortune. There is also the option of thrift stores, eBay, Etsy, and other ways to find the items you can incorporate into your scheme and theme. So, when you first open this beautiful Goddess At Home book, do not be dismayed. It can be done perfectly to your tastes with a little creativity and ingenuity.
Llywellyn has so many fabulous suggestions in the book that it will inspire you to become creative, whether you think you are or not.
You may already have many items that will blend in well with your choice of interior decoration. An old statue that has been sitting in the garden for years, hidden by overgrowth of bushes and flowers, may be perfect to include in your goddess theme. The patina will beautifully add to the ancient look of the haven of quiet peace and serenity. A painting stored in your garage or attic may find a place with your goddess.
You may even begin walking like a graceful goddess once you browse through Llywellyn's book.
Those old huge plastic or clay pots that lost their appeal on the patio can be painted and filled with artificial or real ferns to please Artemis. Greenery always enhances the look and ambiance of a room.
Old sheer fabric or a gown can be used to create the look of a veil draped softly over part of a mirror or chair to inspire the romantic look of Aphrodite. A long veil lying on the end of the bed can give the impression that the goddess just stepped out of the room and will return at any moment. Inexpensive sheer curtains look lovely when draped on the wall and ceiling around your bed, hanging down in wispy folds.
An antique brass key, with those unique marks of use on it, can add a touch of mystery when it is lying on a small table next to a vase of roses.
Go through the thrift shop or your own storage of clutter and with some imagination many things can be converted into a new meaning and purpose. Go to the art or craft store, buy an inexpensive poster board and acrylic paints then allow the creative artist in you to add your personal touch to your room.
There are so many ways to create your rooms that reflect you and your goddess within -- Goddess at Home by A. Bronwyn Llewellyn will inspire you to become the goddess you truly are.
