Gone Is The Butterfly

Updated on June 10, 2011
Source

some days I dance, twilrling on flower petals

sprite like, dusting all who approach with light

at peace with the world and my thoughts

I am as young and vibrant as a butterfly

floating on the gentle breezes of good fortune

entertained by every passer by

today I lay, left in an unnatural position

brittle and dull as a brown moth, still

at one with the dust on a window sill

the world a puzzling sinister place

filled with enticing hazards in wait

to lure and scorch my naivete

the metamorphosis from desirable to dowdy

from elegant to awkward, of course

hatched in my perception

I've been away from hubs for awhile, but nice to know the quality of your work is as vibrant as ever. I enjoyed reading this silently, then listening to it, both excellent and uniquely different experiences.

Listening to you read your poetry adds such another wonderful dimension. I just love that you are adding your voice to your poems. You are definitely ready to read in public!

They prefer you memorize your stuff aleknouse and I'm a disaster in that area. Thank you for your vote of confidence though :)

Memorizing is easy Randy. It just takes lots of repetition in a variety of environments, in front of friends too perhaps. If I can memorize my line in my plays, you can do it too, I'm sure...My memory is toast..

Go girl..it would wonderful, I'm sure...

If I had one stand out piece I could probably do it BB. But I get tired of my stuff so fast that I'm always on to the latest pieces.

I know what you mean Randy...We'll keep working at it and we'll know our important pieces as they present themselves...

And if I can say so once again, to me, all your writing is incredible..

I always read from a paper. I'm old. Deal with it.

Anyway, memorizing is a skill. Mesmerizing is a talent, and you got it, Randy.

Me too Claudia. I takes a bit longer to get back to feeling like a butterfly.

Thank you Cardisa! When I think of you, I definitely think butterfly. One of those brightly colored ones.... like the rhetus periander.

Well you most certainly float like a butterfly and sing like a bee, reciting your beautiful poetry. Very nice to not only read you my fellow poet but to be blessed with your enchanting voice. Wonderful, simply exquisite scribe, I enjoyed the dusting you left as you fluttered by my feather quill laying next to my silent verse. Hugs

Thanks Lori. Somedays dancing is as removed from me as flying a space shuttle. The day I wrote this I was dust indeed. Not today though... I'm all spritely.

I think we can all sympathize with this narrator. Some days everything feels right, our words full of timely wit -- other days, we lay like the brittle and dull dead butterfly; not ourselves. Or maybe it's just all in our "perception". I don't know, but damn, I forgot how much fun it is to read and ponder people's words...
