Grandpa and Grandma Thanksgiving

Updated on November 15, 2011

I’m old and broken but my heart still live for another year of Thanksgiving

Craving for turkey, mashed potatoes, and cranberries

Pumpkin pies, roasted chicken, and corn bread dressing

Gravy, vegetable dressing, and many more goodies

Broken teeth but hey!

Ain’t gonna stop me from eating!

I’ll wear my back up device

And gobble the food as much as I can

Grandchildren, great grandchildren, my son and daughter

Cousins, nephew, niece, and in laws

Gather around the table richly spread

With all utensils...ready to dip in all delight

Chatting and eating with laughter ran throughout the home

Jokes and stories and memories never get too old

After dinner we gather around the fireside

Oh how fast the hours fly by

Twas time to say goodbye

This year was better than the last

Good feeling so purely amazing

When relative could still be friend and every heart was true

Chanroth: What an energetic, imaginative, and profound poetic expression of the joys and loves inherent in Thanksgiving Day with family and friends! Your imagery achieves the graphic and the subtle, and the ensemble conveys the nostalgia and present-ness of this day of gratitude -- even if the mind wanders and the body ages.

      Happy Thanksgiving, thank you, etc.,

Have always loved Thanksgiving unfortunately it's not celebrated in Riga and turkeys are tough and expensive here even if I wanted to do some celebrating myself. Great poem made me sentimental for Thanksgiving.
